Have you been in a hotel/motel that has offered at least one local subchannel?

My latest motel stay and their "cable" has prompted this question. Have any of you stayed in (or are aware of) any hotels or motels that have actually offered at least one of the local stations' subchannels on their channel lineups (e.g. local weather, MeTv, the PBS subs)? This is in spite of many of those cable lineups being LodgeNet/Dish/DirectTV based--and we all know what their subchannel carriage "policy" is. :D :D :D

And if so, where and what were the subchannels being offered?

I've seen weather subchannels on motel cable lineups in a couple of places, but not anything like RTV/Antenna TV/MeTV, PBS subchannels or religious subchannels.

Torrance CA Marriott Courtyard carries KNBC subchannel Universal Sports and KABC subchannel Live Well TV. Stayed there for October fest last year.

During a hotel stay in Chicago last August (Marriott near Rush Univ. Medical Center), I remember seeing Live Well TV from WLS-7.2 in a lobby TV--but I can't recall if it was part of their in-room Lodgenet lineup.

A handful of times at a few hotels.

It generally is not on purpose..it's when the hotel has a newish LCD set, and the cable system feeding the hotel has locals digitally on QAM mixed in with the analog lineup.

Using our TWC system lineup as an example:

2 WVIZ/25 PBS
3 WKYC/3 NBC
3.1 WKYC/3 NBC
3.2 WKYC Weather Radar
4 WOIO/19 CBS
5 WEWS/5 ABC
5.1 WEWS/5 ABC (5.2 is not on cable yet, or up, it'll be Live Well soon...TWC will carry it, so it'll show up here in September)
6 WUAB/43 MyNet
7 WBNX/55 CW
8 WJW/8 Fox
8.1 WJW/8 Fox
8.2 Antenna TV (WJW 8.2)
9 WEAO/49 PBS
10 WVPX/23 ION
11 WQHS/61 UNI
12 WRLM/47 TCT
13 WGN America
...and so on, until
19 HSN
19.1 WOIO/19 CBS
19.2 Me-TV (WOIO 19.2)
20 Local Access/TV Guide channel (our local portion of the TWC system never has ANY access programming)
...and so on, until
23 NEON - TWC NEO systemwide local programming channel
23.1 WVPX/23 ION (TWC does not carry ION's subs, just 23.1 in HD)

You get the idea. The set scans in the QAMs, and because the cable company actually provides PSIP info, the digital/HD versions land in the middle of the analog lineup...thus, analog 4 is WOIO, digital 19.1 is WOIO's HD feed, and digital 19.2 is Me-TV.

I've seen this in about three or four hotels that have put in LCD sets and just hit "scan".

If the cable company doesn't carry a sub, it won't show up. If the hotel uses a satellite based system, the subs won't show up, as satellite generally does not carry subchannels.

And if the hotel has its "own system", this won't happen, either.

The best time I had with a hotel's cable system was when I was at the Country Inn & Suites in Nashville last year. It's on Donnelson Pike, just off of I-40 near the airport. Anyways, the room I stayed in had a 32" Sanyo LCD TV from about 2007. It was basically the same TV I had here, only mine was a 26" model from 2006. I did a rescan and waited for the results. It was so nice to see locals like WKRN (ABC), WSMV (NBC) and WTVF (CBS) pop up in HD. The lineup from that stay is at this forum somewhere (August 14 to 16, 2010). I'm not sure if we had subchannels, but it was entirely possible. :)

Actually, the hotel I currently work for has

KXAS 5.2 DFW Nonstop
KXAS 5.3 Universal Sports
WFAA 8.2 News 8 Weather/AccuWeather
WFAA 8.3 Live Well
KERA 13.2 PBS World

in the rooms, but not in the lobby (an almost-full D* system is on the TVs in the lobby, no subs that way)
