Harold Camping finally spoken tonight -- while he acknowledged that no rapture and no earthquakes took place this past Saturday, the world will still end entirely and completely on October 21:

Look Guys Doomsday is really a code word for pledge drives and bailouts in the Camping type religious media. Even ABS-CBN news in the Philippines even showed KGO-TV shots of the Anti-Camping Protests in Oakland. They even used interviews of Anti-Camping Protestors from the Calvery Church from San Jose that Tomas Roman of ABC7 did but it was VO by an ABS-CBN reporter and they did show the Camping Billboard on the Bay Bridge and Manila Freeeway.

If Harold Camping was Muslim and tried to predict Judgement Day from a politician's house in Pakistan. Everybody in the USA will take this as a 9/11 style threat and have the US Army and Marines bomb Mr.Campings hiding place. Except Camping is trying to use Bin Laden Tactics by doing scripted propaganda from his Various hiding places in Oakland and San Francisco.

Which in this case, his credibility would be all but destroyed -- he would be no better than those supermarket tabloids (The Sun, in particular) that repeated over and over again over the years that the would would be ending. Most recently, July 4, when The Sun says Satan will appear in Congress.

Yeah, but The Sun is purely for entertainment value and not to be taken seriously, just like their former sister publication, Weekly World News. Camping's followers seem to actually believe what he says! Maybe he should say that Bat Boy is going to bring about the Apocalypse.

But then again, The Sun's slogan is "God Bless America". I realise The Sun and WWN are merely fun and games, but there are some readers out there that give them the same credibility factor as The New York Times.

I'm not convinced he's looking for gullible people. Not does he not make any money on Family Radio, Harold Camping has actually bailed out the organization with his personal money over the years. Camping is independently wealthy as a shopping center developer and landowner. He doesn't need Family Radio for an income.

People around him believe that he is firmly convinced of his predictions. Goodness knows, he's humble about it, having invited reporters into his studio for 90 minutes the other day for a no-hold-barred q/a session with them. That took guts.
