HD Radio Car Converters on Display at Aftermarket Auto Show

So, what is your point - they are expensive, degrade existing analog tuners, and the general public and car manufactures are apathetic towards HD Radio.

I saw no reference to whether addition of these converters will affect regular radio reception.
I do remember that when people used FM converters in cars, they did not maintain feedline impedance through the devices, and the additional stray capacitance was often too much to permit proper antenna trimmer adjustment, so the AM was always less sensitive after the addition of a converter.. No worry, I'm sure the RF design will be much better this time.
Will these work by converting to the ORIGINAL incoming frequency, or to a single down-convert frequency which must be used when receiving the HD. I bet not many consumers today will understand tuning using a converter.
I would assume they are making provision for both analog and digital tuning compatibility, but we'll see.

This is from HippoRadio's review of the Receptor HD off Amazon:

"IBOC UPDATE 9/15/06: A friend in Cincinnati purchased a complete car audio upgrade including a VERY POPULAR, moderately-priced radio/CD head-end with SAT and IBOC HD-Radio capacity from a LEADING manufacturer. The unit accommodated both SAT services which required only a MODESTLY-priced adapter kit; but "HD Radio" mandated the purchase of an $250 IBOC "tuner"--MORE than the head-end itself cost! [That city offers an abundance of HD AM and FM stations since some broadcasters there are partnered in the "IBOC experiment".] This capacity was added a week later after the retailer "special-ordered" the appropriate IBOC add-on. This addition diminished the tuner's good performance to abysmal. By day's end, he returned the high-priced HD Radio adaptor! Now YOU be a smart consumer, and draw your own conclusions!"
