HDT-1 reviewed in Monitoring Times

The July Monitoring Times has a review of the Sangean HDT-1. They found it to be the "most sensitive HD Radio yet tested..simply pulling in more stations than other radios hooked to the exact same antenna'. They also found it to be excellent at analog reception.

Pick up a copy and read the review for yourself. It's the third part in a series on HD Radio they're running in Monitoring Times. By the way...Monitoring Times is one of America's two biggest magazines for radio hobbyists, and dxers, so it would be natural for them to be biased against HD (because of interference concerns on AM).

You're right "never mind". Reviewed by people who review radio products for a living, and are more familiar with what's out there than some idiot on a blog, we get a true picture of how excellent this product is. And I don't even own the damn thing, so I "don't have a dog in this fight".

I don't own a Porsche. I think they're beautifully made.

At the risk of sounding repetitive, I've found the HDT-1 to be among them most sensitive and selective broadcast band radios I've ever used. It is truly amazing at its ability to reject adjacent channel interference.

Even if you have no use for the HD feature, it is a really good tuner. The next generation will allow you to lock it into analog only or digital only. That will be a big plus for those of us who live away from metro areas. My only other real complaint (aside from a clock that keeps poor time) is when it loses AC power; you must manually push the on-off button to make it come back on. That "feature" eliminates it from consideration in a lot of commercial applications where it is imperative that it returns to an operational state when power returns. The Sangean people tell me that they have not addressed that problem on the next generation unit and don't have a fix for it at this time. I think that's too bad. If you can live with that problem, this tuner deserves a serious look.

Of course it's a great tuner, Chuck. Baghdad Bob said it isn't. And in his world up is down, black is white, and facts are never...FACTUAL!

There was a music reviewer for Stereo Review in the 70s-90s (I still see his stuff occasionally in Sound and Vision..the mag Stereo Review morphed into) named Steve Simels. I found his reviews to be useless, elitist crap. Then one day it dawned on me that they COULD be useful if I only took them to mean the opposite of what he said. Everything he hated, I loved. I actually bought records based upon his trashing them...and usually got something I really enjoyed. Baghdad Bob makes me nostalgic for those days.
