Look at this latest review for the Recepter HD (one star) - it is too late tonight, but I'll compose a real nice review tomorrow, of my experience at Best Buy:

Desperate Attempt to counter SATELLITE RADIOs popularity, August 10, 2006
Reviewer: Adalberto Aguirre, Jr. "PoPE" (Reseda, CA) - See all my reviews

My boss bought one of these a few weeks back and took it back by the end of the week. We all were very disappointed with terrestrial radio's new "gimmick". The stations were lousy and full of commercials. If i want to hear commercials i'll just save myself the $200 and listen to regular radio. Whats with the HD in the name? Nothing High Definition about it. Also, if you want real music variety, go ahead and pick yourself up SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO. The units are very inexpensive now and for $12.95 you choose from Alt Rock (Weezer, Chili Peppers, Interpol) to Frank Sinatra, old metal, 80's 70s, and many other genres with NO COMMERCIALS.

Terrestrial and HD Radio..... you get what you pay for.

Cool toy, but not very good as a clock radio and not true hi-fi, July 17, 2006
Reviewer: Daniel Eskenazi (Chapel Hill, NC USA) - See all my reviews

OK, I'll have to admit up front that I became interested in this radio because the clock looked really cool. The HD radio seemed like a nice bonus but wasn't my main reason for buying this radio.

So, let me first review the clock. The dot-matrix display allows it to show nicely-rounded digits, but the digits are fairly small. Therefore those of you who wear glasses and plan to use this radio on a nightstand better think again. Even if you can read the clock, the display is VERY bright even at the lowest dimming level ... it casts a blue glow on the opposite wall and I can literally make shadow puppets on the wall. I had to point it away from the bed! Yes, it's that bad. I will probably end up moving it to another room or selling it for that reason alone.

Next, the radio. While the sound quality is fine, it is afterall a tabletop radio and doesn't have the sound quality of a true hi-fi component. I really can't hear much improvement of the HD radio over standard analog broadcasts ... listening to "standard" FM on my home stereo with its larger speakers still sounds much better than listening to HD radio on the Receptor HD. So there really seems to be little point of the HD audio on a tabletop radio other than the potential new features like muticast, etc. My next biggest gripes with the radio are lack of seek or scan buttons, and the kludgy station memory ... you can only add new channels to the end of the list.

So, in summary, this radio excels at nothing and fails miserably as a bedside clock radio. If you are an early adopter who just *has* to be the first on your block to listen to HD radio, go for it. Otherwise, save your money.

This is a review of a radio, not the broadcast system. there are good radios and bad ones. The BA is not one of the best.

I got my 2-cents x 5 = 10-cents worth ! That is putting the power, back into the hands of the consumer ! Oh David, I think his review included a little more than just the radio !

Did you ever notice that HD Radio supporters claim there have been no complaints?
Or are they just ignoring them?
Definately in denial!

"I think HD FM sounds terrible even in the "ideal" samples provided on Ibiquity's own website. It's clearly inferior to analog FM.
Of course, Ibiquity adds a lot of noisy interference to the fake "FM radio" samples they provide on their site in order to try to make them sound worse. My FM radios don't sound like that."
"Complaints should be lodged with the FCC and the FTC about NPR and Ibiquity's claims of "CD quality". These are just completely false claims."
"You can get better sound from internet radio on your computer.
"HD AM radio sounds like it's underwater, listen to the samples on the Ibiquity site.
The only sonic advantage of HD is that it has less background noise, but the muddy "swooshing" sound of the digital compression completely destroys that advantage. I can't listen to it for more than a few minutes without turning it off."

THE MESSAGE FROM HD RADIO SUPPORTERS SEEMS TO BE "IT'S A DONE DEAL" (WITH THE FCC) WHETHER THE PUBLIC LIKES IT OR NOT. SO MUCH FOR THE ILLUSION OF DEMOCRACY. THE GOVERNMENT SEEMS TO BE OWNED BY THE FEW, AT THE EXPENSE AND SUFFERENCE OF THE MANY. THE DEMISE OF THE PUBLIC AIRWAVES IS HERE.
JUST HOLD YOUR NOSE (AND EARS) AND LEARN TO LIKE IT (OR LISTEN TO IT), SEEMS TO BE THE HD SUPPORTERS POSITION.

I got HD Radio X 5 on Amazon.com ! Finally, the consumer gets to speak out about this fraudulent technology ! Negative reviews on Amazon should have considerable impact, now that the big, bad HD Radio Alliance is mentioning Amazon on radio. HD Radio faces SERIOUS technical challenges and is still not authorized for nighttime AM. No one gives a darn enough about AM/FM, to buy into this joke of a technology. Just wait, HD Radio will eventualy self-destruct !

Are you near Gaithersburg, Maryland? I swear I read your product review on Amazon. You hit all the same talking points.

These all seem to be comments on the samples on the iBiquity website.

I had my HD radio on all day yesterday, and tuned to various FM HD and HD2 channels, which sounded superior in many ways to analog FM. Compared to my mid-price CD/stereo, the music was CD quality and every bit as good as a CD played directly on a piece of average gear (Sony mini-system, cost around $250).

AM was a different story. I could not get any AM inside the building that was not 60% noise and 40% audio... due to all the junk radiating form the roof (microwaves, cell phones, two ways, etc., etc.) and the internal noise of probably 1000 or more computers in the building. Yet I could listen to HD on 1070, 1110, 570 and 710 pretty well if i just taped the little loop antenna to a window. So on AM, the HD signal is noise free where the analog is totally unlistenable. Oh, and this was done with the not-so-good BA Receptor-HD, so I expect results will be even better when I replace it with a better radio.

The AM quality was fine, especially on Radio Disney's music. The clarity it gives to news and talk is amazingly nice, too.

Yes, I am close to Gaithersburg, but that was just a first cut, of my review; I wanted to get it out quickly, because I heard the HD Radio Cartel mention Amazon on radio yesterday. Reviews are mirrored to all five of the Recepter HD radios on Amazon; I think the word is getting out about HD Radio being a fraud - just look at some of the other reviews. Of course, I expect, and have seen, a vote against my review and the other critical reviews (I wonder, who that was !), but I can just delete and repost it, and that gets rid of the votes (not that votes are going to make much difference). I think Amazon, and any other sites that I can find, is going to be, by far, the most effective way of getting the word out. One nice thing about Amazon, is that I have seen it mirrored to MANY other review sites !

Reported to Amazon. You need to grow up.

Oh, go ahead, like they are going to remove my review ! :D

I'm sure they won't, just like when you whine to the moderators here.

If I thought that your review was significant, I would have done something like post a glowing review. After all, unlike you, I actually OWN the radio and have done more that try it out inside of a Best Buy. Then I realized that first, I don't need to do that (the majority of opinions are good) and second, I don't need to stoop to your level.

But have fun. You're a big man, manipulating a useful tool like consumer reviews by lying and using them to further your own agenda. A good way to earn respect.

You really are like a child - lying and throwing tantrums. I see now why nobody respects you or your opinions.

Actually, I just put a note on the front of my review about negative voting, so go ahead and vote away, then everyone will see how insecure IBOC supporters are. My review pretty much says it all, but I wanted to keep it short and to the point (for the lay-person); when I get time, I'll be upgrading it. It will be significant, along with the other negative reviews, when it turns people away. Boy, I am glad that I don't own an HD radio - God, what a waste of money ! The boom-boxes sounded far superior and were only $60, not $299 ! People are not going to buy into this garbage, and it certainly won't help save terrestrial radio - BETTER CONTENT MAY SAVE TERRESTRIAL RADIO ! YOU GUYS DON'T GET IT ! Stoop to what level ? My review, from what I experienced, was honest and truthful. It doesn't really matter, what people here think - the majority of people are going to look at Amazon and other sites, not THIS site ! And, as I found out first hand, Amazon is mirrored ALL OVER THE INTERNET ! That's comsumer power !

*snicker* I can't top that stuff. Have fun with that!

;D

Hey thanks - I just changed my note to: "Note: HD Radio has become a hotly-debated topic, so I would suggest ignoring the negative votes, on any reviews."

Yea, that does seem a bit less biased !

Good, it's a start!

It looks like my review is really starting to bother you, with your constant negative voting against it - that is why I told you about it, because you know that well-written negative reviews can devastate a product on Amazon. I just updated my review again, so I am hoping, by the end of the day, Amazon will have been mirrored to all those other review sites - and there are MANY !

Your pitiful attempts to discredit my review - ha !

Don't flatter yourself. You got one hard-earned negative vote from me. Unlike you, I don't feel the need to abuse a consumer buying tool to further my fraudulent agenda.

Like I said, if it bothered me, I'd post my own glowing review (unlike you, I actually OWN the radio and tried it for more than five minutes at a BestBuy). I simply don't think it's necessary. I don't think your review hurts anything at all. I can find many items there that have bad reviews, yet the items sell. Plus, the first two reviews you see are "Spotlight Reviews" both of which are positive.

But hey, if lying and manipulating people makes you feel good about yourself, more power to you. I'm not losing any sleep over it!

IBOCRocks wrote: "I don't feel the need to abuse a consumer buying tool to further my fraudulent agenda."

The first two, including mine, gave that piece of garbage Receptor HD one star. You are paying my review a lot of attention, because you keep voting against it - it is really bothering you, and I bet, you will not be able to help yourself, and will post a glowing review. All it takes are a couple of well-written negative reviews to kill a product. Actually, with my reviews of the Grundig S350, I helped to put Grundig out of business, because I called Grundig and they said that their sales of that radio has dropped considerably. All my reviews on Amazon are truthful, and you are so upset about my review, that you claim consumer manipulation. The fact that you keep responding to my posts, means you are really upset. I also saw that you voted against the other negative reviews, but with my "note", I have voided any negatives votes. I just took care of the negative votes, so you better go over and vote against it again. Your rants show how upset you are - just look at your last post, and you were the only one to respond to my latest thread about no one buying the HD radio, but were buying analog radios instead by the hundreds, remember that snippet from a post on Amazon:

"Amazed that the sales rep told me this last item of stock had been on the shelf for months, while hundreds of cheap and nasty clock radios were sold from beside it - my good luck, and the cloth ears of so many people!!!"

IBOCRocks wrote: "But hey, if lying and manipulating people makes you feel good about yourself, more power to you. I'm not losing any sleep over it!"

In your case, yes ! You are losing sleep, because I see you posting in the middle of the night, along with David. You keep stating, rather dramatically, that your work is done here, but then you can't help yourself and come back the next day, or sneak back in the middle of the night. When, I don't see you logged on, I bet you sneak back as a guest, because you can't help yourself.

IBOCRocks wrote: "I can find many items there that have bad reviews, yet the items sell"

I challenge you to make a list for us, of all the items that have gotten bad reviews and have sold. Again, another unsupported, ridiculous, laughable statement, just like David. I challenge you to provide this information, plus the sources involved. I can tell, when you are upset, because you rant and make unsupported statement like this.

Now that I have a longer rant, you are going to have to have even a longer rant, because if you don't, that means I beat you, and I win.

Have a great day!
