Hearst Television Sacramento to Air Los Angeles Chargers Preseason Games

According to the release KQCA Sacramento will Air LA Chargers preseason games. Note KCRA will air some of the Los Angeles Chargers games whenever NBC Sports is airing the NFL season. For PR Reasons they site the Spanos ties to the South Sacramento Valley/ North San Joaquin Valley area. Yes this PR release reminds me of whenever the Super Bowl is on in the Bay Area they emphasize Tom Brady because his childhood home is in the San Francisco Bay Area.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
KQCA My58 and the Los Angeles Chargers announced Thursday an exclusive multi-year broadcast partnership that makes KQCA My58 the official TV home of Los Angeles Chargers football in the Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto market.

As the Chargers’ official preseason television partner, KQCA My58 will broadcast Chargers preseason games along with a locally produced pregame show. My58 and KCRA 3 Sports will supplement the games with live, local sports content throughout the season, providing fans an opportunity to get to know Chargers players and the team. KCRA 3 Sports Anchors Del Rodgers and Michelle Dapper will lead the station’s coverage, bringing viewers the latest Chargers news, highlights and features throughout the year. Super Bowl LVI is scheduled for Feb. 6, 2022, at the Chargers’ new home of SoFi Stadium in Inglewood and will air on NBC.

The Chargers team has been owned and managed for more than three decades by the Stockton-based Spanos family. The family is known for its philanthropy in the region and has donated millions of dollars for developments including Mercy Hospital’s Alex G. Spanos Heart and Vascular Center, Sacramento State’s Alex G. Spanos Athletic Center, the Alex G. Spanos Center at the University of the Pacific in Stockton and the renovation of the historic Fox Theatre in Stockton, now named the Bob Hope Theatre.

I get the Spanos connection, but when did billionaire owners drive viewing in the NFL?

Isn’t Sacramento 49ers territory?
Yes it is Sacramento is 49ers territory but Nexstar in Sacramento has the 49ers on KTXL Fox 40 because of Fox Sports coverage of the 49ers. Probably the promo has something to do with Raiders moving to Las Vegas is a more likely explanation and Sacramento is no longer included in the TV Markets for broadcast rights to Raiders games? KOVR 13 the CBS O&O in Sacramento would have the Chargers whenever CBS Sports is airing NFL games on non Sunday Night games.

According to this release Sacramento no longer has broadcast rights to Raiders games. That might be a factor in Hearst Television getting the Chargers for the Sacramento area.

Rams could be considered theoretically for broadcast rights in Sacramento but that may not be the case given that Nexstar has the Broadcast rights to that too via Fox Sports on KTXL Fox 40 Sacramento on weeks the 49ers have a Sunday Night Game or Monday Night Game.
