Heartfelt condolences to Kevin Webb and Family

My thoughts and prayers are with Kevin Webb and his family with the loss of his son Brian. Kevin is the GM for urban powerhouse WJMI, WKXI and Praise 105.9. I had the pleasure of working for Kevin a few years ago and he is a class act!

I'm sure I speak for many of us in the Jackson radio market and the community in offering the deepest heartfelt condolences in this very difficult time.

My most sincere condolences to Kevin and his family. I've never met him, but know a few folks from that cluster.

I will certainly keep them in my thoughts and prayers.

God Bless

Thanks to Matt Chatham for responding here...he didn't even know the guy and he took the time to express sympathy. You're all heart Chappy.

I'll just say that I'm very disappointed in the lack of response to this post. I figured there would be at least a few of you that would post alongside this entry in offering some show of respect for the loss in the Webb family. But maybe you're all just here to slam on other stations.

In case any of your are interested...(I'm wondering about that) funeral arrangements have been made for visitation at Ott and Lee in Brandon on Saturday evening from 5-8 and the funeral will be on Sunday at 2 also at Ott and Lee.

> It's not all about you, Tyler. Let's not get tacky. Some of us don't feel the need to post on a stupid message board to show we care about a person.

I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to be remiss.... I have know Kevin for several years and certainly feel for him. I was hoping someone would post some more information... like, what happened?

Absolutely, Kevin is a class act- one of the good guys. Best wishes to him and his family as they deal with the loss of a beloved son. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

Who said it was about me? On the contrary...it's about the Webbs. I guess I hit a nerve. Not trying to be tacky either. If I was being tacky, then I can't imagine what you call the rest of the junk on these boards. If you don't feel the need to post here, then don't. You know, the thought went through my mind that the only reason many of the people on this board ever post anything is so to fire shots at one another about any number of things. I thought it would be nice to put down the sticks and stones for a brief moment and offer some sincerity. I guess I was wrong. How you calculate that it's all about me is a mystery. I don't know what your beef is with me, but you can be assured that none of this was self serving.

I'm glad you can show your support in other ways. See you at the funeral.

What I didn't make clear to you is the thought that maybe this wasn't the time to admonish people who frequent this site because they didn't follow your lead. For those of us with the family last night,we saw firsthand how extremely hard it is to put this sort of pain into words.I know you meant well, and I didn't say you were tacky, just prodded you not to get carried away and start getting onto people. A lot of us are hurting right now. I apologize if I didn't use the right words to you before.

I guess I see your point. And maybe a different choice of words would have been better received. I hope you see where I was coming from too though. It seems like some of the longest strands on this board are over the most petty of things...like this discussion for example. I guess I figured that everyone would respond to something positive more quickly than they do when they are attacking each other or some decision made by CC or whoever. You see where I'm coming from? I guess we all handle our grief in different ways. I worked with Brian, I hung out with Brian. I even had a few conversations with him about the stuff he was dealing with, so I, too, know firsthand how difficult this is. I'm sorry I wasn't with the family last night. I simply thought it would be nice for those who wouldn't be able to be there, to voice their thoughts.

Obviously I was wrong and will be more careful in the future. Apology accepted and apology extended if I stepped on anyones toes.

My sympathies to Kevin and his family. It was a wonderful service with lots of memories shared.....both pastors obviously have long histories with the family, as they shared colorful stories about Brian, his brother and sister. It was heart warming to see so many of the radio community there to support Kevin in such a low period in his life. The funeral home was packed and overflowing into the lobby, a true indication that Brian, Kevin(dad), and family are surrounded by an abundance of special friends.
Personally, (this will give you a time-line) I remember Kevin as Kevin McCarthy on the air in Birmingham nearly 25 years ago. He's always been a pleasant and fair guy in my dealings with him. I look forward to visiting with him sometime in the future. I hope we'll all take a moment today to say a little prayer for their family.
