It's so amazing that the suits at Nassau in Princeton continue to ostracize all the good employees, yet the cancer in the building is still there.

I just got off the phone with my big girlfriend at cc. She said that Heath called Clear Channel around 1030am this morning to tell them the great news. It seems they gave him the 'it's not you it's me' speach. He was then helped to his car, it took several people to transport all of his stuff. Guess he owned 90% of the the equipment there. Grapevine reports has it that people are disappearing in part due to lawsuits aimed at the big guys in charge. Something about sexual harassment, verbal abuse, threats, unjust firings...Seems funny, after a couple former employees decide not to take the crap, we see ALL kinds of scramblings. It's just a thought, but do you think that the "lack of listeners" problem is the result of bad (aka cheaper) programming? Extraordinarily long stop sets crammed with commercials and promos? Or the plain and simple fact that there are more alternative forms of 'entertainment' (like satellite stations and cd players) that are available alternatives?
While many of us would probably enjoy sticking with our favorite format or be content to listen to one or two radio stations that provide it---I still think the "proof is in the product?"
And if the product a radio station is offering is POOR...there are very few people with patience enough to even bother to taking the time to listen.

argy, i don't know which it is... it seems to me that this company has a very bad reputation around these parts which makes it so hard to believe that they got in here in the first place. i am surprised the local advertisers haven't picked up on the dirt and question why the ratings are dropping. i'd rather hear local than satellite... radio should be free to people who want to hear it, but at whose expense? Seems to me that the employees over there in West Leb are getting hit hard since the big N bought them. Courtney Galluzzo, where are you??? He needs to get the place back. Why waste time on shotty programming? Joe Average wants to hear as much music as possible when the radio is on, not 15 minutes of BS and 5-8 minutes of music. And I know perfectly well that the LESS variety you offer, the less people will tune in. And why do we need to hear the same 5 artists all day long? Variety doesn't kill, people!!! Some of the best music out there sadly, rarely makes the radio. It's no wonder satellite is becoming more popular. Radio, at least the way it's being "over Don" will soon enough be a dinosaur unless some serious changes occur. I personally like the CD player more and more each day...

I've heard that the problem isn't the honchos in NJ but the jerk that runs the show for the region, Bob something. He's the one making all the decisions. Of course, the HQ people must be on qualudes or at least asleep at the wheel to let all this happen. Who IS in charge down there???

It's gonna take a little time...but I think the s**t will eventually hit the fan with many of the local advertisers? When any radio station ISN'T working....there goes the renewel of the contract or even the desire to buy time on a competitive station. [Doesn't matter if the origin of the spot is local, regional or national! If something doesn't work...it doesn't work!].
So the current "let's cheapen up the product cuz nobody cares" concept can only work for only so long?
There IS a way to balance advertising with program content...but you'll never convince a consultant or "a suit" that the idea is possible. Especially if their only interest is based on the myth that the only way to operate a successful radio station is by a 100% profit margin. Most radio stations, syndicators or satellite services need to provide programming that's worth listening to in order to "sustain" that profit!
Listeners (contrary to what some of our "play the hits and shut up" contributors to this board will tell you)...eventually get tired of the formula. So they'll seek out alternative sources for the music, news, talk programming or whatever they desire!
Perhaps the only exception to this MIGHT be during the National Public Radio Pledge Drives? I doubt there's a massive audience holding onto every soliticiation....in spite of the fact that a lot of NPR programming can be very entertaining and informative!

hey argy... i can see where you are coming from. i don't think anyone has a clue as to what is going on over at that group. i was checking out the earlier posts and wonder if it is "well-done" or if it's the other guy there who is running the show. i don't think anyone is. and no, radio isn't really free... the advertisers are who is paying for it and unfortunately for NB they aren't going to have the money in much longer with the mess that's been made. i know when there is a buyout that changes are always made but to cut 3/4 of the work force makes no sense to me. i am listening to clear channel a lot more lately. as to the local advertisers, they already know. it's just a matter of time before they tire of the gruesome behavior that is taking place. it's only a matter of time before the national advertisers catch wind too.

But with a company so messed up, and with no real talent left (and certainly none in authority) who could or would expect less? Unless it's certain folks going to their car to smoke a joint or pop a few pills...
