Hello from Fort Myers, Florida, via Lafayette, Richmond, and Bluffton, Indiana

My radio experiences began in 1963 and extended through 1997, when my I left radio behind when my career track transitioned to television broadcasting and church video. The radio memories are firmly inscribed, and remain a vital part of who I am — now in my 80s. WBAA at Purdue was my first on air experience followed by a succession of residence hall closed circuit stations, followed then by a new hometown station in Bluffton, Indiana. Then a couple of Lafayette, Indiana, stations during college. Several part time stints at WGLM in Richmond, Indiana, during engineering work-study periods. Most of the 70s were spent at a high school student-run radio station, WJEF. Finally, while employed in media ministry at First Assembly of God in Lafayette we acquired a radio station in 1984 which we renamed WCFY (We Care For You) and which I managed until we sold it in 1997.

Listening to the great AM rock stations in the 60s such as WLS in Chicago and WOWO in Fort Wayne made me aspire to become a rock and roll disk jockey. That wasn’t God’s plan for me, but I got the opportunity to experience radio, if only local, during its golden age. All happy memories.

It looks like you have some great memories. I remember picking up WLS in the 70's and 80's with my clock radio set to wake me up for school. John Records Landecker, was an influence for me to get into radio. I don't know if he knows how many disc jockies he brought into the industry but, I am sure it was substantial.

I never went to the dark side (TV) but, I am happy you had a wonderful experience. The plans God has for our goodness brings him and us joy. Welcome to the board, I look forward to your comments.

Welcome to the site. We actually had a couple from FL, visiting our church, tonight! They are from Ocala, headed to Charleston, WV, reckon they're taking the scenic rout LOL. God's ways are higher than our ways, amen. Once you get bit by the bug, the RF always remains in your system, to my way of tinkin'.

Amen, I always wondered how God spoke to Moses. I doubt Yaesu radios worked back then, maybe it was a Yahweh system. 🙂

And truthfully God bless everyone on this site. Those that deny Heavenly Father, I wish my love to you and your families.♥️

When KOJO was in Dallas about 1986, there bumper was a song. "Turn on the Light, Turn on the Light, Music that turns the Light for days, Turn On the Light... KOJO... ." 15 SECONDS Tops.

I love radio station history! 🙂
