Here We Go Again: Stand Up to Cancer to air 9/7 on several channels

Remember the Stand Up to Cancer telethon that was in prime time four years ago? It's back again, on Friday September 7th, 8/7 central. The telethon will air on ABC, NBC, CBS, ION, FOX, TBS, VH1, E!, Logo, Showtime, HBO, Starz, and BIO (on a 1-hour tape delay), as well as other cable networks. CW isn't airing it, instead it's having America's Next Top Model. And PBS is not showing it either, instead it's local affiliates programming. Here's the website with a press release:

No thanks, I would rather donate personally to a cancer victim, with any telethon they get a fraction of help. Second, these Hollywood stars are raking in the dough, how much of their piece of the pie are they donating?

As a rule, I only donated to MDA when Jerry Lewis was doing the shows. Not once was Jerry Lewis ever distasteful, nor involved in causes I would personally disagree with like PETA. Sorry guys and gals I cannot give up my steak every now and then.

I have the same rule with homeless people, I will give them food, or a bus pass, but I will not give them money they could use to harm themselves like with heroin.

Anyways, 9/7 I will turn off the so called "idiot box" know as the TV as some refer it to. Probally read a book, surf the net, or blast 98.9 if it hasn't changed over in format.

Just my 5 cents ;D

Y'know, I donated a couple of bucks a few days before Jerry Lewis had his final telethon (2010). Usually I don't even bother with pledging or donating.

Actually, this will be the third Stand Up To Cancer special; the first one in 2008 was only on ABC, NBC, and CBS and 2010's expanded to other networks.

Um, the press release says that one hundred percent of all donations (text, online, and good ol' phone) from this year's fundraiser will go straight to cancer research.

As for the celebrities participating? They only donate their time, not money into it.

By the way...the next time I donate to MDA will be this fall come Permanent Fund Dividend time, not during their "Show of Strength" on Sunday (which I'll still watch because when you think Labor Day weekend, you think their annual MDA extravaganza (with or without Jerry Lewis)).
