Heslam: Dem Election Wins In Massachusetts Good For Local Talk Radio

“I have the easiest job in the world,” [WTKK's Michael] Graham [said]. “I’m a conservative talk show host in Massachusetts. Every day people from the loony left jump up and go, ‘Talk about me, talk about me.’ So there’s plenty to talk about.”

Very true, lots of people were saying Howie Carr's head would explode if Deval won (LOL). From the other side (where I come from), people like Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have a field day every time someone from the Tea Party opens their mouth...it goes both ways I guess

It benefits the likes of Howie, etc., since his audience (mostly conservatives but there are some liberals like Josh from Vermont and Steve from Montreal) needs a place to vent. They do show up in the ratings, as does WBZ (Rea), WTKK, and WXKS but I can't say the same for WWZN just yet unless they don't subscribe. NPR does exist for those on the left, too, and we'll see if they ever
get de-funded (see Juan Williams controversy) No doubt--and I am joking here--some on the left are furious that they don't have 100 per cent of the office holders in MA yet, just 98, and perhaps they can use their own outlets to complain. Or they can call Howie or Michael or others...

I know Santos has to buy time to put his shows on WWZN and maybe it's just too expensive for
subscribing to the ratings...? If Revolution Boston is popular he should consider subscribing--get some more ad dollars.

Yes, WXKS-AM does in fact show up in the ratings, but pretty far down, with a fractional raw rating and a cume not much greater than the capacity of the stadium where the Patriots play. There WAS an uptick in the cume in the latest PPM, taken when the station was in daytime mode from 6:00 or 6:30 am until 6:00 pm or so. After the switch to EST, WXKS-AM will be fairly difficult to pick up in morning and afternoon drive. I've sampled the station later at night on route 128 heading north and it fades out drastically from Lexington to just past the WRKO towers and then comes in again at the 93 interchange. I wonder if it's protecting a nonexistent Canadian 1200. I notice that Jessican did NOT mention Jeff Katz in her story.

Didn't mention Howie either.
WXKS actually not bad by day or night in Beverly. Fairly strong

Isn't there a 1200 in Ottawa? The one which used to overwhelm 1200 around 128 in
Lynnfield when it was prog talk

As a matter of fact... http://team1200.com/

I wonder if their "Babe of the Day"'s measurements are in centimeters! And how can it bbe RAINING in Ottawa if the temperature is 6 degrees?

6 degrees CENTIGRADE (Celsius) would be in the low 40's...
well above freezing...

Yes, that was the POINT of the joke: I was commenting on Canada's use of centimeters and centigrade. I've driven from VT to PQ, and observed the signs that give the speed limit as 90. I wonder how many visitors to La Belle Province take that as their cue to floor it!

I’m a conservative talk show host in....
Like this is some kind of anomaly? The truth is most major stations --like WLS*,WHAS,WJR for example-- have purged even weekend programing* 86'ing talented people who aren't Con's.

Though they did return (Sat morning) Jake Hartford from exile at Green Jakers with Ms Dill Pickle.
