Hey! Why isn't Procol Harum In The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

Hard to believe, but not only are the Moody Blues not in the Hall of Fame, but neither is Procol Harum. But yet they have some guy named Charlie Christian and Professor Long Hair, but no Procol Harum. What a crock. I had no idea that outfit could be so blind. Who picks these folks who determine the inductees and what criteria does the panel use in determining? And who picks the panel? And who is Ralph Bass and Dave Barsalona and how the he&# did they ever get in?

Are you planning to start a whole new thread for every band that isn't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but that should be? Should we hold our comments on any other bands and wait for you to launch a new thread about them, or is it safe to chime in here with posts about other bands that were also snubbed by the HOF?

You are a real charmer buddy. Tell you what; if you want to start another thread, go for it. That is what this site is all about. If you don't like what I post, just DON"T READ IT.

Did Procol Harum have enough career longevity to warrant being in the Hall of Fame? Don't know, just asking. I can only name about two songs by them that still get airplay anymore.

I was thinking that there is a separate category for one-hit wonders, but if I can name two Procol Harum songs, then they wouldn't qualify for that.

I always thought a hall of fame was for the best of the best. I'm sure we all realize that the RnR HOF is a commercial enterprise intended to draw tourists to the Mistake on the Lake and as such it has to place entries which were popular instead of those truly deserving of honor.

That said, (and I am a fan of Procol Harem and the Moodies) PH wasn't around long enough (at least in the USA to qualify as best of the best. And they weren't pure RnR either (although that doesn't seem to make a difference to the selection committee).

The Moodies definitely deserve to be in however.

Lighten up! I was just asking a simple question. Should we limit our comments in this thread to only Procol Harum? Below is a list of 37 other artists or bands that aren't in the Hall of Fame. Can we discuss any of them in this thread, or should we wait for you to start a thread for each of them? I'd hate to bring up other acts that were also snubbed by the HOF only to discover that you were going to give them their own threads tomorrow or the next day.

The Alan Parsons Project
Asia
The Association
The Atlanta Rhythm Section
The B-52's
Bad Company
Cheap Trick
Chicago
Joe Cocker
Leonard Cohen

Seger is in the hall. Was inducted (by Kid Rock!!) in 2004.

I have signed online petitions in the past to get Eddie Money and Brian Epstein (as a non-performer, of course) into the hall. We have seen how well those petitions have done! ::)

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will send you an e-mail back telling you that the days of Buddy Holly are over. That is their answer to, "Why has Chicago not been inducted into the R & R Hall of Fame?". They will tell you that the groups that have not been inducted had no early influence. In other words, they were original and didn't have to be influenced by anyone, and that is their punishment.

the following link contains the discology of procol harem which i believe is 11 albums in about a 10 year period.and one in the early 90`s.that should qualify as having enough to qualify.as well of any questions on were they together long enough.and they had a good sound.they were a rock band even if it is not in what we see as necessarly see as rock.remember they came out when rock was breaking boundries.

I agree. And their Live album from 1971 was a real classic. I still would like to know who chooses the inductees and who chooses them. Anyone out there know for sure?

The website tells you one thing, while their e-mail responses tell you something else. What they say, and what they do are two different things entirely.

They get permission from New York, and I am sure that there are some favoritism practices that are heavy influences in the nominating process. There is absolutely no excuse for Chicago not to be there. Or for that matter, Procol Harum, who had a lot more than Whiter Shade of Pale and Conquistador.
