High School football on The Sports Hub

High School football on TV is Great . High School football on 98.5 The Sports Hub is horrible. 98.5 broadcast most of MA High School Suberbowl football Games last saturday (12.5.09) from Foxboro. High school football on radio is not for me . I had to change the channel

It wasn't a real "radio" broadcast of the games. It was a feed of the TV broadcast. They often said things like "and now we'll get another look at that play...."

I was pretty happy that all the games were on both radio and TV so I'd have the option to check them out.

I listened to about 1/2 of one game on 98.5 and then watched one entire game on WSBK on TV.

While the production, broadcasters, etc were not top notch, considering it was all pieced together by people not doing it on a weekly basis it wasn't bad. Also, not sure if they switched 1/2 through the day or not but Felger/Zolack called at least 2-3 games back to back (if not all 6) which has to be hard to do, especially since neither are regular play by play guys.

I'm not a fan of 98.5 or Felger, but all in all I think everyone involved did a great job covering a full day of high school football.

I noticed a game on TV38 Saturday night, and it was Tanguay & Zolak calling it. That game was not on the radio, because there was a Bruins game on.

I think WBOQ had their own announcers for the Marblehead-Bishop Fenan game (diff. broadcast from
the one Sports Hub had, the TV simulcast)

SportsHub announced that it would be on tape delay, but I didn't bother to catch an hours old radio simulcast of a HS game.

I thought even on tv Tanguay wasn't descriptive enough so the radio broadcast really suffered.

I didn't listen to the games, I watched most of them on CSN or TV38. While watching I couldn't help but think about how this played out on the simulcast. While Tanguay and/or Zolak may have had the occasional "Lets take a look at the replay" line, they also continually plugged all media outlets that were broadcasting the games (radio, tv and web). I think, considering they don't do this on a regular basis, and with 6 games under their belts that day, they did a great job. Between increasingly bad weather and the fact that they were at it for nearly 12 hours, hats off to them for a job well done. They made a couple of lop-sided games really exciting and added just enough info to make worth it sticking around for.

Oh, I thought that was Felgy not Tanguay.

Either way, yeah, considering it was on multiple formats and they did it ALL day and they aren't that experienced I'd say good job for sure.

Must have just been the night game(s) that was delayed on the radio....the daytime radio and TV were all synched up as far as I could tell.

WATD in Marshfield did a great job with the Marshfield S. B. game. Bill Wilhelm and his whole crew always take it to the next level. Professional and well covered. I would venture to say, one of the best radio broadcast crews on high school football.

It goes without saying that no matter what WATD does is professional and well covered and is one of the best "local" FM stations out there. Love listening to them when I'm on the South Shore.

I thought you loved Mustard and Johnson. Why were you listening to 98.5? You've been outed. You hate M&J just as much as the rest of us, don't you?
