Internet radio station 99.9 The Beat (www.999thebeat.net) has apparently dropped it's Hip Hop and R&B format as of 3:30pm EST and has begun stunting with a Christmas music format as "Christmas 99.9". The Urban format was launched December 26, 2008 and had a successful run, however when new local competition in Boston appeared on the FM dial (87.7 FM), a pirate station too, the station was not able to compete and had to drop the format.

It's really unfortunate.

The last song played as 99.9 The Beat was Empire State of Mind, and the first song as "Christmas 99.9" was Andy Williams It's the Most Wonderful Time of Year.

Management has made it clear the station is not going dark, and that a new format is on the way for 2010.

I would like to see this station go to a Dance-leaning CHR format on December 26th or January 1st. We have enough Rhythmic in Boston, and no dance.

I agree a dance station would make a splash in Boston, even if it is on the internet only.
