History Of Failed Formats on 95.7 FM (Since the KKHI days)

Now that KMAX is gone, we can add that to the list of failed formats
on 95.7 FM since the KKHI days!!!!!! KKHI was at one time a very
successful classical radio station on that frequency(owned by Buckley Radio).

Here is a list of the list of failed formats on 95.7 FM since the Classical KKHI days.
WESTINGHOUSE:
KPIX-FM(FM Talk) 1994-1997

BONNEVILLE FORMATS:
KZQZ(Z95.7) CHR/Pop. July 1997-May 2002
KKDV(95.7 The Drive) Classic Rock Hits. May 2002-May 2003
KZBR(95.7 The Bear) Country. May 2003-April 2005
KMAX(95.7 MAX-FM) Adult Hits) April 2005-February 2007

KPIX-FM actually started as the "FM News Station," and it was one of the most amateurishly run operations I have ever heard. I was amazed that Westinghouse - a pioneer and expert in All News radio (KFWB in LA, WINS in NY) couldn't figure out how to run a news operation. The reporters and anchors sounded mostly like Interns, and traffic reports (just read by the anchor - no remote traffic reporters) took up about 50% of the air-time. Just awful. It was during the OJ Simpson trial, so they filled time for awhile by switching to gavel-to-gavel OJ coverage. When it finally became "FM Talk" - it was actually not a bad effort - mostly syndicated shows, but with 2 good local shows from Dr. Nancy Snyderman and Pat (somethingorother).

Then Bonneville bought the station with the call letters KOYT at first, and plugged in their Chicago CHR station for the first few months. It was interesting hearing traffic reports for the Loop and the Dan Ryan Expressway. Actually, the station was far superior to what came after that...

It made ZERO sense to launch a top 40 station in SF at the time it was launched, considering that by that time the format had abandoned its original MASS APPEAL roots, a la 93/KHJ under Bill Drake here in LA in 1965.

Launching a top 40 station at that time in a city with TWO CHR/Rhythmic powerhouses made ZERO sense in 1997, and that's still the case today.

z95.7 didn't do that bad, and why can't there be another station? people probly know now that they are owned by the same company and want something different

please... NOT ANOTHER CLONE... we have 4 wannabe half ass stations already...who cares if someone comes in and is REALLY STRONG and gets a 2 share and knocks 1/2 share off everyone else... competing for 1/7th of a NOT HUGE 18/34 piece of the money pie.... you're right nate... MAKES TOTAL SENSE...bring back TRUE BLUE CHR to the bay ... something HUGE like good ol' X-100 who couldn't get it done with some of the Greatest Jocks of their era. but what do all us radio old dudes know...there is nothing to gain from looking at history... NOTHING AT ALL!

We can now add 95.7 The Wolf to the list of failed formats! Entercom gave the Country format a second try on 95.7 in the late 2000's-early 2010's! It is now a Sports talk station branded as 95-7 The Game! This format now lasted longer than the Z95.7 Top 40 format that lasted from July 1997-May 2002!

You're right!!!! It's been an all sports station for over ten years now!
