Hoda Kotb Will Co-Anchor NBC’s ‘Today’ Show

It's interesting that it's mainly a female cast now. Which is good, because it's mainly a female audience.

Al Roker is still a major part of the show, but this may be the first time a morning show has been built mainly around women.

Let me also just say that the fun really grinds to a halt when the Megyn show begins. It would really be best for the Hoda & Kathy Lee show to start at 9.

If Megyn Kelly is moved other places within the network, would they move Hoda & Kathy Lee to the 9:00 hour? (Which kinda makes a bit of sense.)

I really would have preferred Craig Melvin or Willie Geist over Hoda. As a male viewer for over 30 years I'm a bit turned off by the mostly female cast (although I love Savannah and Dylan).

Apparently the advertisers neither appreciate nor desire your viewership. The show does so little hard news now that I'd imagine most of the male viewership (along with the female viewers who prefer substance to fluff) has been chased off to cable news by now or just isn't watching morning TV anymore.

This could prove to be the new blueprint for morning, or it could prove to have been the wrong decision. I realize that's an obvious statement, but this is the first time in its existence that 'Today' hasn't had a male as anchor or co-anchor. I'm sure Megyn Kelly tried like crazy to get the job and, since she didn't and considering her large contract, she is likely even more marginalized at that network. I wouldn't be surprised to see her shuffled off to MSNBC to head an 8PM program.

Here is an interesting story on Hoda Kotb. Interesting that she once used the Ann Martin name though. I didn't realize there another Ann Martin besides the legend in Los Angeles when I read the article but its a slip.

The new Today Show co-anchor Hoda Kotb appeared on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last night, and brought up an amusing tale from her local news days.

After struggling mightily to find on-air work after college graduation, Kotb finally found a job at WXVT, the CBS affiliate in Greenville, Mississippi. (It’s now a low-powered station.)

One night, she had to fill in for the station’s lead news anchor at the time, Ann Martin, who she described as a legend at the station.

Kotb, a reporter at the time, had never anchored before and was quite nervous.

“I still remember the prompter: ‘Good evening. I’m Hoda Kotb, Ann Martin is off.’ I remember being so nervous, and the guy cued me…I looked at the prompter and said: ‘Good evening. I’m Ann Martin, filling in for Hoda Kotb.'”

The story elicited laughs from the audience, from her colleague Savannah Guthrie, and of course from Fallon.

Kotb later moved to WWL-TV in New Orleans, anchoring there from 1992-1998, before arriving at NBC News.

This tale proves that even TV newsers who make it to the highest level of their profession make mistakes early on, and have persevered.
