Here are the Holiday 2020-21 San Francisco Radio PPM Ratings:

Any thoughts?

Holiday 2021 6+ PPM Ratings Book Observations:
* Bonneville is the class act of SF broadcasters
* KUSC ownership has done nicely for KDFC
* KGO is a better station than echo chamber sister KSFO - I do not understand how KSFO typically ranks higher
* KNBR notably plummets in non-baseball books. 680's brand is as a baseball station, and they should make sure to resign the Giants
* Will be observing if Alpha Media's BK affects KBAY & KEZR - their only two powerhouses that rank well in both SFO & SJ
* What has happened to Alice @97.3, and outside of KCBS, what has happened to Entercom, as it slip slides in general locally?
* KPFA has become a non-entity. Could a buyer convert 94.1 back to a commercial license, or is it now sentenced to non-comm in perpetuity?

Thoughts?

it appears that any commercial band noncom can restore its commercial status. However I can not recall any case of this happening to use as precedent.

David: I can think of two---both in Phoenix. Family Life Radio bought 1230 AM in '78---it wound up returning to commercial broadcasting in the 80s. And KMLE at 107.9 was Christian until being taken commercial Country in the late 80s.

Clearly the COVID world has altered some of the radio landscape. Stations that work really well during the morning commute (see 97.3--Alice) just don't work as well at home. Conversely, there are stations that don't work well in the commute, but are great at home (see KDFC). The ratings during this COVID period demonstrate this. It will be interesting to see what happens when COVID disappears. Does everything revert back to pre-COVID listening habits, or will a new landscape prevail?

Did something happen to Wild 94.9 that I'm unaware of? That's quite the dropoff.

2.52.42.31.7
It's more than likely the 5-week (not 4) Holiday period, which tends to affect many formats quite negatively.

A 2.5 is a 2.3 is a 2.6 is a 2.4. That is all within the margin of error.

Remember that San Jose IS San Francisco. It is just a break-out "embedded market" inside the SFO MSA.
