Hollywood Reporter: All-Christmas stations double their ratings

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/christmas-music-radio-station-ratings-269928

WODS is mentioned. Stations that go all-Christmas can double their ratings and make lots of money.
Yes, some listeners bail out but they get a lot of listeners who "discover" them and then remain
as faithful listeners when they go back to regular format. "Chri$tma$ has 2 s's in it and they're
both dollar signs"--Stan Freberg

It is said listeners to AC, country, and oldies stations "adjust better" to the move to all-Christmas, and there is a 20 per cent boost in the weeks AFTER Christmas. (And those who pledge to take that preset off
during Christmas? ...You'll be back when it ends...right?)

That's what I'm seeing on the WDRC-FM Hartford (classic hits) Facebook page this week. DRC went Christmas for the first time this year and FB is a battleground. But even the listeners who are pledging not to listen for the next three-plus weeks are also saying "Can't wait til Dec. 26!" DRC is also using promos featuring snippets of the music it usually plays, emphasizing the recently added '80s hits, no doubt to get listeners who've found its distinctive mix of Christmas music to give the regular format a try.

I only wish their HD-2 ("Big-D Classic") would stream, to allow us "not-so-wild-about-all-Christmas music" to continue to enjoy the real oldies format they have on the HD-2 side. But, as a rule.... Buckley does not stream it's stations except for WOR. The regular side of WDRC-FM really sounds great as well. But alas.....I'm just far enough (Whitman, MA) to not get WDRC-FM with a full quieting signal. Only when there is a good trop from Connecticut to I get the HD-2, just enough to get a few minute "sample" before it fades. *sigh*
