Holy Hip Hop & Urban Gospel come to WIGO

The all new WIGO RADIO "AM 1570 THE LIGHT" in ATL, www.wigoam.com, has a new show targeted for the young and young at heart on Saturday evenings at 7pm and another show that targets young people weeknights at 7pm. The show Saturday had a big debut, 7-7-7 at 7pm, and airs directly after "The Locker Room" sports show that airs at 6pm. With WIGO's new nightly lineup and Saturday evening lineup, and their morning show playing an urban gospel mix, they are reaching people who would not normally listen to a "gospel" format or go to church. Great moves for WIGO as it strives for dominance in their format, and offers a viable, positive alternative to today's Hip Hop and R&B music.

And unless you live across the street from the tower you can't hear it. Just what we need, another hip hop and urban crap fromat.

For those people into Atlanta radio history, WIGO was a fixture at 1340 on the AM dial during the 1970's, and into the mid-1980's, serving a mostly African-American audience. Of course, WIGO preceded WAKE in the 1960's before its current incarnation of WALR-AM carrying ESPN Radio Deportes (Spanish).

Deportes is gone as of May. 1340 simulcasts WFOM's news/talk format.

If you're in Tyrone, across from the tower, you can get WHLE-LP. http://www.holyhiphop.com

The audio sounds to me as if they're broadcasting only one channel of a stereo source into left and right. And, with their target audience on Old National Hwy, and their signal not reaching out of Tyrone, I don't see the point.
