La bonita is no longer on 1230 am, now 1230 am is Hong Tong Radio. It was also said it will be simulcasting on 1320 am.

Now Hum Tum City and our recent Biz Radio news story plaintiff Rehan Siddiqui. Looks like the moving trucks were hard at work for the Fun Asia group again. Now promoted as the first ever 24-7 Houston licensed Arabic station. 1180 KGOL is running a loop of Rehan Siddiqui moving his listeners over to KQUE. I'm surprised to see Liberman do this on KQUE. This takes the new La Bonita away from Houston itself and relegates it to the west side on 96.9 and far north side of Houston on 880. I wouldn't be surprised to see some more shuffling occur within the Liberman cluster to get La Bonita on a signal that can be heard in the city.

Brokered Ethnic is the best use for also-ran AM signals in the market. The Hispanic audience has almost completely migrated to FM, leaving a lot of open slots on AM for underserved/unserved audiences. You see this same trend in other big markets.

It's that or more preachers.

You're seeing a temporary problem with the database itself. Check the entire listing for Texas stations and you'll find that everything below 10kW is listed as zero watts. This kind of thing happens occasionally while records are being updated, but it's unusual to see it that way over the weekend.

And he referred to the "crystal clear" signal on the new frequency. Got a groan out of that one, as the 1230 coverage is lousy.

I'm surprised to see Liberman do this on KQUE.

Don't be surprised. Liberman has brokered their other AM's in the past. KSEV, before the sale back to Dan Patrick, was leased to Patrick for years. KJOJ 880 has run brokered ethnic at times in the past under Liberman ownership (Vietnamese for quite a while.)

Or it could be possible that La Bonita is just a filler format, as the earlier "Azucar" was. If the 103.3 upgrade gets built, you'll probably see some more format shuffling with the Liberman properties.

A 1kw graveyarder in a huge metro area like Houston is going to be an also ran. I don't really see this as an improvement for Hum Tum City. The signal is worthless outside the beltway at night, and marginal between the loop and the beltway.

I caught that too. "Crystal clear". Not quite. Mediafrog, what I'm saying is that considering the storied past of KQUE, it's hard to read it on the screen being called an also ran. Just me living in the past, I guess.
