Hope For Haiti Telethon To Air Friday 1.22.10

A very touching and moving experience to view tonight (Fri) - well produced, as I see it, and I'm sure it will help the relief efforts greatly - even if it just puts the problem in the minds of non-contributing people to know what is still going on with our neighbors in Haiti.

Some of the earlier comments in this thread betray a cynicism that looks more like an excuse to not try to help. I'll leave it at that, since there's enough sadness from the earthquake to not have to deal with the coldness of some people who don't demonstate much class when it's called for.

Am I my brother's keeper, indeed?

Meh, shake it off. There are always armchair quarterbacks and coaches who think they know better.
 
I understood it was a special edition of their flagship all-evening variety show "Sabado Gigante," and that it aired in many Latin American countries. Good for them.

I do suspect many viewers in Mexico and countries to the south would have also appreciated seeing the same simulcast, regardless of being in English, that we all saw -- particularly given the level of "stars" that participated. And since we all share the same hemisphere with Haiti. Maybe not on every network, but at least on one. I'll have to check with a friend in Rio to see if they got to access in on a broadcast outlet. (Same friend who wanted me to air the post-9-11 concert when I didn't have access to a radio feed, apart from putting a TV set in front of an open mic.)

Any word yet on what kind of money Univision was able to raise, and who their charities were? I gladly contributed to the HopeforHaitinow.org because the beneficiaries are getting 100% of the proceeds for relief efforts.

Actually, the French networks will have their own telethon, "Ensemble pour Haiti", which will be seen at 8PM ET, alongside the American special.

Only found out about that afterwards...SRC also carried Ensemble pour Haiti (Together for Haiti) as well, I didn't see it listed on V (the reseau formerly known as TQS). TV5 also carried a live simulcast of France's Haiti telethon from the Olympia in Paris on the weekend (they picked up a feed from France Television, their counterpart to the CBC).
 
I didn't watch any of it, and quite frankly, why should I care? I care about issues that affect me and the millions of other American citizens within our own borders. Charity begins at home! And if everyone did something in their own backyards to help themselves, and their local neighbors, the world as a whole would be a better place. I can't support any cause within a foreign country when there are so many problems right here in the U.S. that should be addressed first. I've said this many times before, and I still live by this thought. We can't continue to be the Welfare and the Police of the World! We can't afford this, and with so many American Citizens truly in need, I prefer to keep my money right here in the U.S. where if might better OUR COUNTRY.

I imagine that for all three telethons at night there were last-minute additions to the network, too late for the schedule to be revised (MSNBC, for example).

It's was to bad this has to happen,but it's a part of life.I tape the show friday from CBS.It was nice to see that the MTV networks still deals with music instead of it's reality crap programming.also it was nice to see them letting the other channels to sign on with them.I do agree with some of you about our people at home,especially
down in hurricine ally,Today I'm still pssst off why the long delay when New Orleans went under water.and a delay of help from our own country.Yes I know these people Haiti are poor and can not send money to New Orleans,Sept 11 victims,our troops and so fourth,The politcal corruption got to get runned out of there.
 
CORRECTION: The Hope for Haiti telethon was the fifth multi-network benefit I've been watching; I also remember "Stand Up To Cancer" from 2008 which was only on ABC, CBS, and NBC. I saw a portion of it while in North Carolina for my grandmother's funeral the next afternoon, though I did see some highlights on the morning news.
