Horrible Engineers...lets name names, who is just bad in your opinion?

I wont name names, but I once worked with an engineer who was doing contract work on the side (without managements knowlege). Left me hanging in the studio with a cart machine on the blink while he drove 40 miles away to fix something for one of his contract stations. During afternoon drive. On a Friday. On a full service news and information station. Spent 3 hours juggling carts with a single deck.

"We've all worked with bad engineers, people they just are clueless, and down right rude, and mean. Lets get even by posting their names here".

Here's a switch...why not list the ones who are good and really know their stuff? I particularly like Lightner Electronics, based out of Claysburg, PA. They're expensive, but they're definitely worth it. The guy who owns the company is in his late 20's and has about half a dozen people working for them. Since there are few engineers left in Central PA, they do much, if not all, of the station's contract work in the area. They're capable of a LOT more than just transmitters...they can do phone systems, computer networks, and just about anything involved with a radio station. They do a VERY stellar job, and can make the most garbage equipment sound just as good as anything you buy new.

The "bad" engineers are often forced to "make it work" by managers who don't want to spend the money necessary to fix something the way it should be. And I know on some occasions where they've been stiffed entirely or paid extremely late for their efforts. An engineer is the last person you ever want to get on your bad side.

Okay, we all know there are great engineers, horrible engineers and some in the middle. But, it galls me to no end, that you all think that every engineer is awesome. That is not the case. I have worked with a few steller guys. And I've worked with one major ass hole, that has since left the business. But, its not all engineers. And for that fact, news people, air talent, sales folks are all the same...some good some duds.

I'll go along with that. I was simply making the point that you just did. I don't think posting names on a message board isn't going to do anyone really good. Karma gets everyone in the end.

hell with it....I'll go ahead

Steve Truex

was hired as Full Time eng....would leave during the middle of the day to do "boy scout" stuff and work on his contract stations....

Aligator clips, Radio Shack, and Chewing Gum...that is his style.

because its sooo much fun. Look at the other posts on this board no one cares about anyone except number one.

And if you keep up that attitude, you're going to land yourself in a big pile of number two :D with no way out.
