Hotel Cable at Best Western near Columbus, OH airport...Good and Bad

I'm at the Best Western Port Columbus Hotel near CMH, a.k.a. Columbus' Airport tonight. The TV has the dreaded LodgeNet remote and defaults to an information channel when the TV is turned on. However, the lineup actually looks like Time-Warner's expanded basic lineup with HBO thrown in. :)

It sure sounds like a legit lineup to me. Chiller, only 2 ESPN channels (and not 4) and the Time-Warner weather station? Hmmmm! ;D

And Chiller on channel 24, no less! Not a bad channel location for a relatively new station!

I would think this would be Fox Sports Ohio. Lately, they've been taking to branding as "FS" followed by the region in their programming, dropping the "N". You didn't see a "FSOhio" logo on this channel when you flipped by?

STO stands for Sports Time Ohio. It launched five years ago and is owned by the Dolans, who also run Cablevision/Optimum. Unfortunately, if you Google "STO," the first page of results is check full of hits for "Star Trek Online"... and no SportsTime Ohio website! The Cleveland sports world just can't get a break, can it? :D
 
I'm surprised they had WUAB and not the My subchannel on WSYX 6-2.

Yeah, me too, though my gut tells me that's rerouted from another TWC channel that's blocked out.

Also...three of the FS(N)s (Rocky Mountain, Pittsburgh, and Ohio) are under separate ownership and use the FSN brand and bug during games.
 
I checked the lineup again last night. It is indeed WGN America. Their News At 9 (CT) had WGN America ads inserted over the local channel 9 ads. However, the Illinois Lottery drawing at 10:22 PM ET was shown as it is locally on channel 9.

As for WUAB-TV (MY) channel 43 of Lorain/Cleveland, it is indeed WUAB. I saw the open of their 10 PM news produced by sister station WOIO-TV (CBS) channel 19 of Shaker Heights/Cleveland. Just for the asking, is WUAB the Indians station? I can't figure out why they're on the Columbus cable lineup otherwise, considering the capitol is actually a bit closer to Cincinnati. ???

I would think Time Warner carries WUAB mainly for the Indians. The station was also the default UPN affiliate for Columbus, when that network existed.

Personally, with MNTV available locally through WSYX's subchannel, the Indians (and perhaps other Cleveland sports) is what's keeping Time warner from dropping WUAB.

Out of curiosity, is Columbus in Reds territory as well? If so, who carries them locally?

WUAB has been on cable in the Columbus area for years, even pre-dating them carrying the Indians games (1980-2001). Currently, the over-the-air flagship is WKYC (NBC), and have been since 2006, as they helped launch Sports Time Ohio with the Indians (the team's ownership owns the channel, but WKYC provides technical support and studio space). Between 2002-2005, the Indians were cable-only on a Cleveland-area feed of Fox Sports Ohio. WWHO currently carries Indians games in Columbus.



As for the Reds, they've been cable-only since 2001, and at looking at some of the old listings from Classic TV board, WCHM carried Reds games for years when they had their over-the-air network (via WLWT).
 
noticed in a Maryland motel this past weekend that whenever the Lodgenet reverts back to Interactive TV the volume goes about 300% louder than where you had previously set it.

Same site, they just wanted to promote that they are 24/7 HD. You can thank their technical facilities at the WKYC building at 13th and Lakeside for that...

As noted, WUAB's carriage in Columbus dates WAY back, and at the time, they had a lot more sports. About the only thing they carry is a package of 5 Cleveland Cavaliers games a season...rebroadcast from FSOhio. As also noted, the Columbus market MyNet affiliate is a subchannel, and hasn't been able to dislodge WUAB from the TWC Mid-Ohio lineup.

The lineup sure looks like the TWC lineup, and you're not getting TWC's 26 weather radar channel without it :)

You're only missing WSFJ/51 (2), which is not a huge deal unless you really miss TBN...

So they have done away with the "Cavaliers TV Network"? I remember years ago - in the "LeBron Era" - watching a Cavs game in the "NBA League Pass" package that was beamed via WUAB, and had no references to Fox Sports whatsoever.

It was the 2006-07 season that the Cavaliers entered into their current deal with Fox Sports Ohio, in which they moved all of the games there (plus the five-game-a-year simulcast deal with WUAB). The WUAB/Cavs TV Network (and before, on WOIO from 1987-1994) package was usually about 20-25 games a year, plus some playoff games, while 30-40 games were televised on Fox Sports Ohio, and the remaining games were pretty much radio-only.
 
WUAB has been in Columbus since the 70s...
