How ABC stations can air two college football games on one channel

in the Quad Cities, WQAD ABC channel 8 aired the Illini - Buckeyes game while WQAD 8.3 (MyNet) aired the OSU - Kansas game (11/1).

That said, what other markets had at least two or more ABC feeds?

WBAY in Green Bay also occasionally airs a second game on their 2.3 feed for Live Well Network; it must depend on capacity or how many ESPN networks the local cable provider carries. Probably the conference relationships also have plenty to do with it; as the Quad Cities are right on the edge of Big 12 territory due to Iowa State, they allow the station to do two-feed broadcasts so all their games are broadcast.

Of course, judging from how godawful that Illinois/Ohio State game went, WQAD probably wished it could've gotten another game from ESPN.

Perhaps they got permission to air more than one game.

It should be noted that in the case of Major League Baseball there have been a couple of times when both The Yankees and Redsox have been the FOX Saturday Night Game and on several occasions Tribune has gotten permission to air both games in the Hartford/New Haven Market because Connecticut is split mostly between Yankees Fans and Redsox Fans. They will air one game from FOX on their main FOX CT WTIC-TV 61.1 Channel and the 2nd Game they show on sister station CW affiliated WCCT-TV 20.

The NFL however DOES NOT allow this. For football Connecticut is split mostly between The New England Patriots and New York Giants. CBS carries the New England Patriots and FOX carries the New York Giants. On the rare Sunday that both teams are playing at 1PM on CBS, WFSB Channel 3 the Merideth Owned CBS affiliate will carry The New England Patriots. WFSB says there are more fans of The Patriots. That said however they said that they are not allowed to carry both games. I would assume if they were allowed to carry both games one game would get bounced to LIN-TV's WCTX 59.1 (sister to WTNH 8.1). A couple of times in the past WFSB has bounced things to a non-sister station.

I'd say this was definitely a special situation. That ABC game was an either/or situation, there was not a "reverse mirror" with the other game showing on an ESPN channel like they do with the afternoon games. So for most people in the country, they could only watch one game on their ABC channel and would have to watch the other on ESPN3 if they wanted to watch that one instead. Most likely they had that special permission because Iowa is both a Big 10 and Big 12 state, plus they are on the border so they have to serve Illinois as well.
