How come KLIV hasn't cross promoted the new all News 1590 yet on KNTV 11?

I remember in 2001 KLIV used to cross-promote on KNTV to listen to the KNTV 11 News on 1590 at 5pm and 6pm before. Channel 11 became an NBC O&O.

Now that KLIV is now NBC radio affiliate when will they cross promote again on KNTV? I know KLIV is owned by Empire Inc of San Jose. When will KLIV get an agreement to borrow the NBC Bay Area TV reporters to appear on 1590? I know Cumulus for KGO 810 borrows reporters from KGO ABC 7 to do reports for KGO-AM 810 and KCBS does borrow people from KPIX to do some reports for KCBS. I think if KLIV does cross promote their product on 11 then KLIV will be more viable for the San Jose submarket.

I've wondered this myself, it certainly makes sense. But isn't NBC Bay Area trying to get rid of the South Bay lean and become a player within the whole market and not just San Jose? That's the only reasons why I can't see them taking the oppurtunity to cross promote

NBC television has nothing to do with NBC radio news.

NBC Radio News is a product of Dial Global.

NBC Television was sold a little over a year back to Comcast by its previous owner, General Electric.

But Wait CBS Radio News is owned by Dial global but operated by CBS. KCBS is owned by CBS Inc and they borrow reporters from KPIX(CBS Inc) to appear on KCBS for some reports.

But KGO-AM is owned by Cumulus. ABC Radio is owned by Cumulus and KGO-TV and ABC TV is Owned by Disney but KGO-AM still mananges to get people from KGO-TV to appear on on 810 AM for a Talk show (Brian Copeland and Michael Finney) Also KGO-AM manages to get some form of agreement get reporters from ABC7 to appear on KGO-AM.

KCBS-AM, KFRC-FM, and KPIX are all owned and operated by CBS. So KCBS does not "borrow" the reporters - they are employees of the same company as KPIX.

Though KGO is now owned by Cumulus, it was formerly an owned and operated station belonging to ABC (Disney, Capital Cities before that, the original ABC before that). The TV and radio stations have been sharing reporters for decades, so it makes sense to continue that relationship. In the 90s, I recall that a number of KGO radio reporters (Greg Edmonds, Ed Baxter and others) also reported for Channel 7. Perhaps that cooperation was even written into the deal when Cumulus bought the former ABC radio stations from Disney.

But KLIV has no real connection to KNTV. And KNTV is now a full Bay Area wide station, with transmitters on Mt. San Bruno near South San Francisco and Daly City. I don't think they'd have much to gain by partnering with a low-powered top-of-the-dial AM station in San Jose that most people in their viewing area can't receive over the air, and probably don't know even exists.

I know the Signal goes as far north of the San Mateo Bridge gets KLIV via OTA. I know KICU used to have ads for KLIV before TV 36 was owned by Cox inc and moved to Oakland.

I listen to KLIV up here in Concord, the signal isnt that bad. It comes city grade on a car radio as far north as SF or Oakland

Yes, I realize that. I used to listen to KLIV decades ago from San Francisco and even Marin, when it was a Top 40 station - but the signal was weak and a bit staticky. I doubt many people in Oakland, SF, or Marin would bother with 1590 when they have the KCBS blowtorch available...not to mention KQED. Their listernship outside the San Jose market has got to be negligible.

It's an AM at 1590. The listenership inside the San Jose market has got to be negligible.

When I've been there, it seems to cover the city well, but once you head into the Santa Cruz mountains, forget it. Transmitters are near the strudio, just a few miles east of downtown San Jose. Plus its trying to reach the community with some niche programming directed at Silicon Valley, and they've been the long-time home for San Jose State football.

But as so many have suggested, partnering with NBC11 would make no sense whatsover.
