How dare a non-funny, boring Woody rip No Name on the air!

S

Sell the numbers

Guest
Michael Martin or someone at CBS SF, can you please show a little smarts and fire the milktoasty, lame Woody Show.
Aside from having a mediocre (at best) and horribly subpar (at worst) ratings history, they believe their "I'm too cool for the room" attitude is fooling somebody.
They stepped over the line when, in classless fashion, they ripped No Name fresh off him being fired.
While in the guise of trying to make it seem like he was his friend, it was obvious that Woody took glee in reporting that he's still around but No Name wasn't good enough to cut it in mornings.
In an industry full of highly insecure people, I've never seen a better example then Woody and his crew.
Moreover, my professionally trained radio ear is of the opinion that it's the boring, unfunny and untalented Woody Show that somehow has danced through raindrops to avoid being fired themselves.
I'd like to suggest other means that Woody has used to keep his job however that wouldn't be ladylike.

This is the same "Sell the Numbers" that worked fo Mr. Martin, and HATES the Dog House..... I am no fan of Woody or his corn ball show.... [EDIT]

[EDIT-namecalling]

Never worked for Michael but know of him and we work for the same company. And yes, I hated those loser, all-hype no-talent JV and Elvis as well. Seems others finally got wise and agreed with me as they are now working in fastfood where they belong. Looking forward to Woody and crew joining them soon. Although I'm beginning to realize some of the appeal of the Woody show to CBS this morning as I see they work real cheap.

Everyones entitled to their opinions. But

I hated those loser, all-hype no-talent JV and Elvis as well

WTF? Are you telling me that the #1 morning radio show in the Bay Area ALL TIME was all hype no-talent?

Im guessing you sir are either unemployed, or wear knee pads to keep your job. Because your opinion sucks.

Woody has to be some of the worst recycled, doctored up radio show i have tried to listen to. I welcome JV's return.

Wow! So the Dogs had higher ratings than Don Sherwood on KSFO back in the day? Better check your facts...the Dogs did great in their run, but they never got close to Sherwood's numbers on the self-proclaimed "World's Greatest Radio Station."

Wasnt Don Sherwood on am? I think my grandpa used to listen to him. I dont think he even knew where the radio dial was. lol.

Ok.. So you got me with a technicality.. lol

I'm not particulary trying to defend "the Dogs," but it seems to me that you can really compare radio ratings from the 60s to anything from the late 70s and after. In the 60s - especially early 60s when Sherwood was at the height of his popularity - practically nobody listened to the FM band. Most people listened to 20 (more or less) AM stations, with the vast majority of people tuned in to only 10 stations - KSFO, KFRC, KNBR, KCBS, KGO, KNEW, KABL, KIBE, KDIA, and KYA. I'm sure somebody will correct me if I've missed a couple.

I'm not sure about Bay Area ratings, but I know that 93/KHJ in Los Angeles would pull a 20 share or better in many day parts at the height of its popularity in the mid 60s.

The math changes when you add a couple dozen FM stations, and a bunch of new and more specialized formats. For the last three-plus decades, stations are ecstatic if they get a 6 or 7 share, and many stations thrive with a 2 share.

Agree on the 6 or 7, disagree on the 2. I don't think anyone with a 2 in their demo feels like they're thriving. If you're over a 3 share, then you're hauling in some real money.

In defense of the Dogs...Elvis was usually pretty cool; JV was kinda surly.

Woody who???

Once the Doghouse returns to the Bay Area, it's all over for Woody.

If JV was in a coma and they hooked up a mic to his left nostril so you could hear him occasionally exhale, he'd still get better ratings than that guy.

Well, maybe "thrive" is the wrong word - but if you look at the Arbs (12+), there are many stations in the Bay Area that have retained the same format for years though they rarely rate better than a 2.3 or 2.5, and a couple that rarely - if ever - crack the 2 mark (Live 105, Alice), yet continue on with the same format seemingly forever. I assume CBS is satisfied because these 2 stations pull enough of the most desirable demos to be saleable to advertisers.

As for "the Dogs," I'm a couple decades out of their demo - but I used to listen with my older kids (now grown) to the Doghouse in the morning when I was driving them to school. This was in the mid 90s, mostly in the Wild 107 days, maybe a year or so of 94.9. I have to admit that I usually found them funny and entertaining. I'm not a prude, but I was sometimes disturbed at how salacious they could be...impressionable young ears in the car, and all that.

And I remember a couple of way over-the-top phone-prank stunts they did that could have easily ended in violence. Obviously, they wouldn't have gotten on the air if they had, but still...they were more than a little cruel to their victims.

Nevertheless, did I think they were talented? Definitely.
