How does a metro area of around 5 mil have no alt station and a half a rock station?

What are they trying to do here?
I have always felt the more corporate the station the worse the music will be.
WMMR thankfully hasnt changed a whole lot in 37 years. Y100 was taken off faster then a prom dress. How could they have gotten rid of wysp like that? Thats like tastykake getting rid of peanut butter kandy kakes.
i spend half my time in philly and the rest in cincinnati. Every time i come back here, there is always a dramatic change to the radio dial. Anymore the only station i can count on being the same is KYW. My only hope is 2 classic rock stations and rap.
So im set if i want to hear 10,000 led zeppelin songs and kayne west.
Thank GOD for Ipods and sirius

Try NYC. I am guessing the format on terrestrial is dead for now.

Long Live Rock!

The bigwigs see opportunities to make more money with other formats. Radio is 100% business these days. And the number of people living in the metro has no bearing on formats.

Why, they're trying to destroy terrestrial radio, of course.

No one can argue with that!

I think Radio One gave Y100, like, seven or eight years before they took off the prom dress. I don't remember exactly how long but it wasn't prom-dress-fast. They left it alone for a good long time.

It's not really like that at all. They know that WYSP wouldn't have done very well without Stern holding things down in the AM. There are too many options out there nowadays. It's more like Tastykake getting rid of Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes when someone leaves the company and takes the recipe with him!

And a buncha people on these boards think KYW should change too! Go figure!

iPods and satellite are indeed saving our ears...but they're helping destroy one of our favorite industries at the same time. I wonder what the FM band will be used for fifty years from now. I can't imagine there'll be much radio on it.
