How is KPNW FM doing in the ratings? Particularly in the demos they’re after?

I'm not sure I understand the controversy behind Seattle is Dying. Why is KOMO getting so much criticism for that, when other stations aren't getting the same criticism for doing similar reporting? One of the local stations down here had a series entitled "Is Portland Over?" Any guess as to which station it was? Hint, it wasn't KATU.

My guess is the dyed in the wool Seattle defenders have watched the city gradually degrade to where it is now over a long period of time. That, and they likely don't visit downtown much anymore. Like you see in other nostalgic references on this site, their only frame of reference of what downtown is like was when they visited years ago. 'Seemed okay then!'

Also some people refuse to see the reality for what it is. I know people who live in Seattle who big advocates for the homeless. There’s nothing anybody could do or say to change their minds. They subscribe to the narrative that anyone homeless is just a person who is down on their luck (and won’t even consider the possibility that there are other underlying issues that need to be addressed). The only thing that changes their mind is when something bad happens to them. Then all of a sudden politicians like Sawant don’t seem so smart anymore.

Back to the topic at hand, I think KOMO did an excellent job. They addressed some key social issues and looked at different approaches for solving the problem. I’m not sure what anybody could possibly ask for. I think it’s more dangerous when we all pretend that nothing is wrong.

anyone object to getting back to the actual subject of this post?
As the OP of this topic. Allow me to 🤣🤪🤣🤪🤣🎵🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. And. 🙃. For good measure.

Seattle has it’s problems but just about every (not all) major city in the world does.

For going Back on topic, I like what KPNW is doing, hopefully they expand the core new music artists songs they play. Noticing a bit of repetition of newer artists as their discovery core. Don’t hear much overlap between them and KEXP.

Carry on.

And to the “We Belongists, or Pat Benatarians” You can still get your fix on 95.7 96.1 96.5 102.5 (doesn’t belong) 106.9 and probably several others. Let’s keep 98.9 We Belong Free since 2023.

Couldn't the same be said of any major city, or at least Portland and SF? Apparently nobody even tried to take a stab at which Portland station did the series about the supposed end of Portland, but it was KOIN channel 6. Then again, Portland seems to be the poster child of conservative media making a bad example of how liberal cities are run.

T-shirts! I can see the coveted 6+ numbers soaring once they start handing out those babies. ;)
How about dropping turkeys with T-shirts on from helicopters?

All I ask is to stop sending the druggies from Seattle to Aberdeen.

True story: I was in the market to buy some speakers for a stereo/record player a few years ago. There was an ad in Aberdeen for some pretty good speakers. At first, everything looked good, but then I examined the photos more carefully. There were multiple meth pipes and drug needles in the background. Needless to say, I passed.

If I get my hands on one of those shirts, the station will probably be gone within 10 years, and more likely within 5. That's been my track record over the past few years. The only station swag I have from a station that still exists is a lanyard that my parents got for me from Alt AZ 93.3 when they were in Phoenix a few years ago. I had a Z100 sticker that my mom brought back from New York, but it got lost when we moved. I had stickers from the iHeart stations after the major shuffle in 2016, but again went missing in the move, and they reversed those changes. I stil have the lanyard I got from that. I also had a KMPS window sticker that we got at the fair in 2011, but that station is now gone. At one point I had a KBSG keychain, but again, KBSG would be gone in five years. I was also sent a Y101 shirt from KRRY in Quinsy, IL, and a year later that station went Classic Rock. The other exception would be Spirit 105.3, I had a t-shirt I got when I toured that station in 2004, but outgrew it in a few years.

Are radio station bumper stickers still a thing?

I always thought it was a bad idea, sticking one of those on your bumper as a way to show your loyalty to a station, and of course it gives free advertising for the station. But then the day comes when they change format or for whatever reason you're no longer a listener. Have you ever tried to successfully scrape one of those off your bumper? Good luck in that!

It’s also a good way to get profiled.

I saw the presentation they are taking to the buyers. The level of thought they have put into this brand rollout is very impressive ( TV spots, comps of the outdoor boards, even how the t-shirts would look). They also shared some of the on-air personnel updates and what's coming. Stay tuned.
They’re not planning on a “We Belong” marathon or anything crazy are they?
