How long will Neal Boortz`s stale show last on WSB-AM 750?

One thing is for sure, when Neal decides to hang it up, there will be a vacuum in the talk radio world in Atlanta. Who's gonna take his place? What will fill the void? Denny Radio? Yeah, I turn the dial when he starts talking about his plane or his home in Florida, but it's gonna seem strange when he is no longer on the air.

Boortz is one of the few who can take a conversation about "poop" and make it entertaining - that was one of the topics yesterday.
I disagree with the premise of all Neil's arguments - that we are responsible for our own success and failure in life. Neither Neil nor I have control over being born "normal" or "retarded," big or small, pretty or ugly, rich or poor etc. All these have a tremendous affect on your choices in life - they are what formulates your "essence." Taking credit for being intellectually superior or physically superior is empty - you can not honestly make that argument.
Neil does admit he is full of it and admits it's all for entertaining the sheep(that would be us.) And I am green envious that he has all that money from talkin' on the radio. Send him out to FIX the transmitter next time it goes off......then you'll see who deserves the money in this curious little arrangement we call radio.....
The freakin' engineers should be flyin' the Moonies and vacationing in Naples.....

Yeah, Neil's fundamental argument that the poor are simply lazy is absurd. Some people are issued far less IQ points than others, but somehow Boortz doesn't seem to take this into account, ossibly because he's not too bright. I kind of feel sorry for him.

WRNG was originally licensed to Charles Smithgall. I don't believe there ever was any ownership by a municipality of "the City of North Atlanta." It was indeed a marvelous novelty for a number of years, with an initially terrible signal (and I think they were initially Daytime ony, having to protect a NC station). They would identfy callers as they came on the air as "Go ahead, Line W … R … N … G." Hank Morgan ended his Atlanta career on WRNG. Miki and Tedi (the female twin liberal talk mistresses) were an early feature. Sean Hannity and Ian Punitt worked there.

But Neal made his mark there early and was the most audacious of the gang. Was loud and kind of demanded your attention. It has served him well.

That right about Sean? I did not realize he worked at WRNG. I first met Sean when he came over from Huntsville to work at GST. Seems a little young to have
been employed by RNG but what do I know?
Neal started at Ring Radio when I was still in high school. I remember listening to him and thinking, this guy is nuts. Say what you want about Neal but one thing is for sure
he's outlasted most of his contemporaries in the radio business. He must be doing something right.

I was talking about the city of license, not ownership. WCNN is still licensed to (CoL of) North Atlanta.

It's one thing to do a four hour air shift of non stop hits with 15 second talk breaks 4 times an hour. It's another to do four hours of talk everyday.
Guys like Hannity & Oreilly "coast on calls" for the most part letting the listener do the content and with correct screeners we have "agenda accomplished."

Few of these guys, Neil especially, start after doing a lot of show prep. Scott Slade probably does more prep than Neil, or for that matter any other morning show in town. So the redundancy factor really sets in.

If most on this board were real PD's sounds like they'd flip to a new show every month since they got bored.
But who exactly is going to enlighten Sean and Neil on topics and flow and repetition. It must be maddening to be a PD anywhere and have no access for any input. The resulting factor in some talk stations is a "who cares" attitude from many pds. Sure they can jazz up a stop set with a promo full of zaps and swooshes but most of the content they have zero controll over.

And at times it feels like everybody is talking about the same thing except for Dr Laura who seems to be menopausally challenged or just cranky since she's pretty condesending for a caring counselor.
Ya think talk radio will self destruct? So much potential talent and topics and the format is as redundant as the playlist at the River.

(emphasis added to quote of original post.)

There are a number of competing "groups" in our society who add spin to information, so some of the stuff I am going to point you toward has it's own share of spin.

In your spare time, Google:

Wednesday morning meetings
Leave Us Alone
Grover Norquist

If you enjoy that little exercise, then do some heavy lifting research, and track down congressional records and new stories about speeches by congressmen and senators. Amazing how they, too, just like the talk show hosts are talking about the same things on the same days.

Things that make you say: "HHMMmmmmmmmmmmm!"

After you make that discovery, and you say "Hmmmmmmm" and you continue to observe the process for two or three years, then you start saying words that they frown on in Sunday School.

You do?

Yes, that's his fundamental argument, but does he believe it? Who knows? Neal's job is to get ratings and make money for the station, and he definitely takes that into account.

Talk radio is about entertainment. Who knows what any talk host really thinks? Does anyone think Ann Coulter is as outrageous as she comes across? She knows outrageousness made her rich and got her on the cover of Time Magazine.

When Rush Limbaugh signed his new contract, he was quoted as saying his show's main objective was to provide entertainment that attracts listeners. I thought it was interesting when Arbitron told us that Sean Hannity has hired a programming heavyweight to study his PPM numbers by minute and recommend what Sean should spend more time talking about in order to maximize his ratings.

Roddy-If you take his rantings as a whole you could reasonably conclude that Neil feels he "earned" everything that has come his way. And I would not argue that he has not worked hard to be successful - many of us work 60-80 hour weeks trying to break through and rise to the top.
I agree that his show is riddled with BS for entertainment purposes.
Only those who really know him, up close and personal, know the real Neil Boortz....
My guess is he has lot's of flatulance

I swear that the last two days Neal has repeated previous "bits" during the 8:30 - 9 slot, even though he appears to be live for other stuff.

Today, he came on at 8:30 saying he wasn't at the Ga. game in Ariz. eve though Herman Cain will be there tonight, then what I hear is a bit from June, word for word, same tone of voice same comment from Belinda & Royal (kid inhales water while swimming, drowns two days later). Then traffic and spots and another bit I've heard before (explains Orly airport crash impact on ATL).

Normally I like Neal. Since I can't listen at work, the 8:30 to 9 slot is the only time I get to hear him.
But this is cheesy. If I didn't need Captain Herb's traffic, I'd switch.

I agree with the other posters here that Neal Boortz has gotten too arrogant and stale along with his co-hosts. The show was good years ago.... However, in my opinion, it has become a comedy showcase. That Belinda woman sounds like a female Gomer Pyle. Poor Royal Marshall (please don`t call me Royal Norman!) seems like he is tired also and just going along for the ride. Neal seems to drift off into rants about how rich he is and how many homes he owns.... I think that he has lost touch with his audience. The others don`t seem to care anymore either. I wonder how much longer he has on his WSB contract? I bet WSB could save alot of money and hire someone alot better. I think that Atlanta needs a friendlier- more audience friendly host. I remember hearing a long time ago that Tony Schiavone was interested in Neal`s timeslot. I don`t know about now.......
This is corporate radio and nothing will change as long as the show generates ratings and revenue. Period. You're point may be valid but corporate doesn't care, $$$ is the bottom line.

Another well-known talk show host who started at "Ring Radio" (WRNG) is Ronn Owens, who went on to bigger things and has been at KGO 810 (San Francisco) doing 9-Noon over the past few decades.
