How many Clear Channel stations went off the air this morning?

WOW! No backup generator??!That's kind of hard to believe for a group like that in a market this size.Hardly ever need one but when you do.....

Generators, like talent, cost money. Perhaps they'll spring for a hamster in a revolving cage. If not a hamster, maybe a turtle.

Maybe they need a couple smaller generators that would only run the critical stuff that could be hard-transferred in if the big one quit on them again. Generators are electro-mechanical devices, and there's times they won't work even if you test them and maintain them properly. If I was in the top 5 markets, having a couple extra generators like the natrual gas Generac units I could buy down at Home Depot might be a really good thing to have. I'm talking JUST the equipment racks and the studio stuff.. nothing else. Most of the time the big one could handle everything, but the cost of a little one would be well worth the loss of airtime if things really got ugly.If a guy could keep the tech room running and at least playing music by thowing it in A-serve and keep Kraddick and L&T going with their ISDN/uplink stuff, limping along would be ok. I feel for you guys down there..... Being off for an hour with lots of stations and affiliates screaming bloody murder can't be fun at all!

A Generac puts out such lousy power I wouldn't want to plug any "critical stuff" into one. Been there. Most UPS's hate them.
You're right, they aren't the greatest, and some UPS systems are not at all happy with them. On the other hand, a 15 kW Generac (from Home Depot) kept our station on the air during Hurricane Rita. Nothing blew up.A lot of other stations in the area went dark when the power went out. They either had no generator, or it failed to work.

I didn't notice any outage... then again, I'm only listening to 92.5 at the top of every hour to see if they call my name out for that workforce thing.
