How many in Dallas is buying into the HD radio bit?

We use 320K MP3's, which is a very high quality sample rate. However, I've started converting to the .wav format, in part because of HD and also because the music sounds more natural.

Good move. With the cheap prices on hard drives these days, there's no reason for anyone to compress on-air audio.

But commercial radio stations should never compress their audio files. Spend the money on good audio! If you aspire to be in pro radio, pony up the minimum costs of doing business!

Non-profits get a pass on this, Robert. You do what you can when you can.

A-thankyou :)

Robert, there is one in Rockwall that has a good set up,close to the lake in a shopping plaza, and there is one N .Dallas. around Preston and LBJ. So it depends who the mgr.is I suppose. None the less I am still not impressed with the HD, and I have heard it at Best Buy and Circuit City as well.

I don't know, and I don't care, or monitor the "sales" of HD Radio.....

I have purchased my HD Radio for the car already. Last October. I needed to upgrade to a CD player anyway. I do not care about other's situations in their "newer" automobiles, that don't need to upgrade.....

I amy happy with the Stereo HD sound on Legends AM 770. I look forward to listening to 770 at night. I could care less about 570 and 1310 being in HD, as they are Talk Radio, and Talk Radio sounds fine in regular AM. But, I do hope that there will be some other "AM" HD stations to play some Rock music---- and "not" the tired old #&@^ that is programmed on "Hit" rock 92.5 and 93.3 and 102.1, and 102.9 . . . .

On FM, I am enjoying the static-less quiet while listening to 101.1 WRR. Classical pieces lend themselves to very "quiet" sections, and the HD signal makes listening completely enjoyable -- that is when WRR is --not-- just folling out all of the tired old Classical "hits" . . . .

I also have a desktop HD Radio at home. I went on the cheap, and bought it on Black Friday at Radio Shack. There's lots of room for improvement in the RS model... but it's OK for around $100 . . . . I also enjoyed being on the "cutting edge" with this purchase.... I do not own an Ipod or an MP3 player.... but I wanted to be a part of the HD Radio group. I guess I could have spent hundreds on an Ipod, but I chose $125 to put on the RS Accurian Radio.

AS I stated before, I could care less about the sales of HD radios. I have mine, and I'm happy with them, and that's that ! !

You sure 770's HD is stereo? 770's Internet stream is, but I don't think the HD is.

Search on ebay and you get: "45 items found for hd radio"

Search on ebay and you get: "2087 items found for 8-track"

And that tells me that why you have a few dozen (plus 9) of people selling a new product, or trying to get rid of an impulse purchase they're regretting, you have a few THOUSAND desperately trying to sell an antiquated media form they can no longer really use...

I'm not arguing your numbers, but do you really think that's significant?

If anything the more apropos comparison might be between HD and XM/Sirius...

Wonder how many people are regreting those purchases and trying to just make some money back?

I think the ebay numbers are significant.

I also think these google search numbers are significant:

Results 1 - 10 of about 1,440,000 for hd radio for sale.

Results 1 - 10 of about 68,500,000 for 8 track for sale.

For whatever reason(s) you choose to believe, there is obviously a lot more public activity surrounding 8-tracks than HD radio.

Know anybody that owns or cares about 8-tracks?

Okay, then tell me why you think they're significant. To me it's not significant in that most of those sales are probably from people liquidating collections, trying to make money, etc etc...
"Public activity" is a very nebulous term. Are there companies making 8-track players? Are they available at retail locations? Is there an ad campaign being run that pushes 8-tracks as teh new wave of music listening? Can you pick up an 8-track player at Wal MArt? best Buy, etc?

And frankly no. I don't know anybody who cares in any way shape or form about 8-tracks. I've never heard of somebody hoping that 8 tracks return so they can hear that lovely clunk as it changes track (mid-song by the way)...I don't know of anybody who longs for the higher quality of 8 tracks..and so on and so forth...

I like cart machines! Is that significant? ;D

HD radio bit?

I live in Plano and bought an HD radio before Christmas and I get a lot of weird interferance with Kiss and The Edge. Like garble digital noise.

I can't really tell the difference between the sound of HD and regular radio on FM. I'm really disappointed with the product.

Kiss espanol was a cool idea.

the same amount as 8-tracks. Of course if you're a "vet" you knew how to take the wheel out of them andthus you have a cart. ::)

None :) In fact I actually bought some of them from e-bay. I also got several sacks full of them from a friend of mine who used to work at the Arlington American Broadcasting School.

Hey, we all have our hobbies ;)

I salvaged a few old carts right before they demolished the old KDNT-Denton studios last year. They were still in my old DJ booth, on a rack near the ceiling that someone forgot to clean out and tear off! And I'm about to get over a case of Black Lung from wandering around that place.

BTW, for anyone who cares, the old KDNT grounds on Teasley Lane have been cleared, and a new, yet unnamed elementary school is already nearing completion there. It's set to open this fall, and there actually is a plan to have a display there that commemorates the old radio station!

Back on subject, I actually saw an HD radio on display at Office Max this week.

No I don't own an HD Radio. My exposure to HD AM has been through air checks posted online.

I'm doing what most smart consumers do before buying an expensive new technology. I'm reading reviews online. I've tried testing the equipment at stores. I've listened to online air checks. And I'm not impressed.

Never judge new technology that way. Just buy one and try in your home, take it back it you don't like it.

For my purposes, HD Radio would be a "gadget" purchase. Something fun, but not something I need. I don't buy expensive gadgets with the foreknowledge that there's a really good chance I'll take them back. In this case, I ran into so many bad reviews of HD Radio, I made it a point to check out HD Radios whenever I found myself at Fry's or Radio Shack on other errands.

I've confirmed one of the reasons for the bad reviews: FM HD-2's don't sound very good. Actually, let me clarify that. When I find an Internet station with HD-2 quality, sometimes I listen for a bit. I already pay for my Internet access, Internet stations are free (the ones I listen to), and so my expectations are lower. But, for a $200 or $300 piece of radio gear, HD-2's sound quality is insulting.

Also, I've looked at the programming options on HD-2 in Dallas, and none of those formats interest me anyway.
