How many of the great voice-over guys are left?

Great article on Pardo. Thanks anotherguy.

Being too young to remember much 50s TV, my first exposure to Don Pardo was as a Jeopardy addict in the 60s - at least during school holidays, or when I was home sick. I remember Pardo's opening:

"Now entering the studio are today's contestants......these three people will compete for cash prizes today on Jeopardy..." followed by Art Fleming's effusive:

"GOOOOOOD MORRRRNINNNGG! Thank you Don Pardo, thank you friends!"

Uh - Fleming's style was quite different than the reserved Alex Trebek. I remember that Fleming always introduced the specific sponsor by product name going into the commerical break, encouraging the viewers to "please watch this important message, won't you?"

I always thought it was a little bizarre how 3 guys known for their voice characterizations died within a week of each other in July 1989... Mel Blanc, Jim Backus, and Vic Perrin (the control voice of The Outer Limits).

Casey Kasem actually did some announcing (and possibly movie hosting) while at WJW-TV 8 in Cleveland in 1959..According to the fine Ghoulardi book by RD Heldenfels and Tom Feran, he replaced Pete (Mad Daddy) Myers at WJW Radio and TV..

Here is a Christmas Greeting ad for WJW-TV 8 from TV Guide from December 1959. Notice the spelling.."Casey Kassem".

BTW The Ghoulardi book I believe is out of print, but if you can find a copy anywhere..Pick it up..It is a great history of the Cleveland Movie host Tradition and gives a feel of local 60's and 70's television..

That even rated an article in the 1990 World Book Encyclopedia
Yearbook. I've often thought it was a strange coincidence as well.
