How many of you are tired of having The Simpsons Treehouse of Horrors special being preempted into November?

How many of you are tired of having The Simpsons Treehouse of Horrors special being preempted into November?

I don't follow nor care for baseball so I may be a little bit bias, but ever since Fox acquire the rights to air the World Series back in somewhere 1999 or 2000, that for five or six years that The Simpsons Treehouse of Horrors has been push back into around the first week of November. This has always pisses me off and watching the halloween special in November just isn't the same. Even if it is a few days after October 31st.

I am tired of having to wait until November 6 or whatever in November for a new Treehouse of Horrors episode. It totally kills the feeling of Halloween for me. I am sure there is people out there that feels the same way especially for those that watch other FOX shows that gets push back so FOX can devote October around baseball.

Well that is one of the reasons why they (awhile back now) stopped advertising them as "Halloween Specials." They list them as "Treehouse of Horrors" followed by the number. And although I agree with what you say, I can see why FOX does what it does

First of all we are now used to watching Christmas episodes of our favourite reruns in July so why not a "Halloween episode" in November.

Secondly the Treehouse of Horrors yearly episodes tend to be one of the highest rated Simpsons episode. So it makes sense that FOX would push their highest rated programs into the Novembers sweeps. I'm actually suprised baseball doesn't do this. But I guess it DOES get cold )

Re: How many of you are tired of having The Simpsons Treehouse of Horrors special being preempted into November?

"Halloween isn't over till the Simpsons say it is", the promos have said the past
couple years.

Last year the World Series was a four-game sweep. The Halloween special COULD have aired on the last Sunday in Oct. This year it could also be a sweep or maybe just a 5 or 6 game series (so far Chi. is up 3-0). Why can't Fox advertise the show
and put a graphic "if no baseball", and then if a seventh game IS needed, they
can just announce that the special will air the following week?

You've touched upon the REAL reason. Ah, yes. The sweeps :)

(by the way, _one_ year the World Series stretched into Nov. and delayed the
Simpsons Halloween special even more, but there was a good reason: in 2001,
when the 9/11 attacks halted baseball for a week or so. The Series ended
Nov 4, Nov 6, something like that)

A good reason, but a sad reason. SB XXXVI wound up in February for the same sad reason.

How long does Fox have the contract to drive viewers away from watching baseball?

Super Bowl Sunday is now the first week in February strictly because it's a sweeps month, although that wasn't the case in the 2001 season.

The NFL pushed back the start of the season until the week after Labor Day and brought back the 2-week gap between the NFC and AFC title games and the Super Bowl to make sure that this would happen. Probably at the request of the networks (ABC this year, for the final time).

But MLB probably won't do the same. Just too cold in November for baseball in most cities. Not even Bud Lite is that foolish and the players' union probably wouldn't go along anyway.

Re: How many of you are tired of having The Simpsons Treehouse of Horrors special being preempted into November?

If the Chicago White Sox indeed sweep the World Series (they're up three games to none at this writing), I hope Fox will indeed move-up the "Simpsons" Halloween episode to this Sunday night (October 30th). If the Chisox win tonight (October 26th) or tomorrow, let's hope Joe Buck or Tim McCarver will be able to announce after the game that the "Simpsons" Halloween episode will be seen this Sunday night. But just in case, should the Chisox sweep or win in five, call and E-Mail Fox and kindly ask them to run the "Simpsons' Treehouse Of Horrors" this Sunday night.

BTW, Fox's contract with baseball ends after the 2006 World Series, and if it is extended, there could be more problems trying to schedule a "Simpsons" Halloween episode in the future: I would not be surprised if beginning in 2007, the regular-season and the postseason both get pushed back about a week (or week and a half) so the World Series gets played during the November sweeps. If Fox retains the postseason TV rights, it might not be possible to air a "Simpsons" Halloween episode in it's normal Sunday night at 8 (ET/PT) timeslot anytime between the third Sunday October and the first or second Sunday in November.

Either the episode will have to air on the second or third Sunday night of October (assuming that's the final day of baseball's regular-season), which would be two or three weeks prior to Halloween; or on the third Sunday of November, which would be at least a little more than two weeks after Halloween and in some years, the Sunday before Thanksgiving!

It's my guess that if baseball's postseason scheduling gets pushed back a week to ten days to put the World Series in the November sweeps starting in 2007, the "Simpsons" Halloween episode would be seen in early-to-mid-October prior to the start of postseason baseball (assuming Fox still has the contract).

Re: How many of you are tired of having The Simpsons Treehouse of Horrors special being preempted into November?

I am -- lol!

Seriously, though ... Actually, Fox has had the rights to air the World Series since 1996. I remember in September and October 1996 that Fox said in promos they would start airing The Simpsons after the World Series. That was also the first time they aired the Simpsons season premiere in November; this has also been done from 2000 to 2004.

Also, Simpsons fans may remember at the beginning of Treehouse of Horror XIV, Kang looks at a TV Guide and exclaims "Pathetic humans!" for the network airing a Halloween special -- "in November!!" Kodos asks "Who's still thinking about Halloween?" and says they already have their Christmas decorations up.
Edited by alternativemedium on 10/27/05 04:13 AM.

Rupert has bretty much given them a blank check to keep the rights, iirc.

Unless you're playing in a domed stadium, it's just too cold in November to play at night in most places.

Fox has already stated that they will run LAST YEAR'S Treehouse of Horrors if the series ends before Sunday.

As much as I hate having to wait until after the World Series end to watch it,unless FOX bails out of baseball, which will probably never happen, The Treehouse of Horror will contine to air late for the foreseeable future.

I agree with you on that.

I've never totally understood why Fox chooses to wait until the first week of November to air the Simpsons' Halloween episodes.

Most people aren't even thinking about Halloween anymore by the time November 6 rolls around. Most people have moved on to other things, such as preparing for Thanksgiving & the Holiday season.

During the World Series, there ARE 2 nights that don't have games...usually Monday and Friday nights! Why couldn't Fox air the "Treehouse Of Horror" episodes during one of the nights that the World Series ISN'T playing, such as Monday or Friday night??

Granted, it would be "out-of-pattern", but I think that it would be a LOT better for Fox to air "Treehouse Of Horror" BEFORE Halloween, instead of AFTER it!! :)

I hate the term "Sweeps" because that means networks always take the best episode of a show and show it out of order, thus making the storylines confusing.

I guess by now, since The Simpsons have been on the air for so long that we have past Treehouse of Horrors reruning all week on various stations before Halloween. I totally forgot about that.

Still, showing new Treehouse of Horrors past Halloween is stupid in my opinion.
Well, since I am not sign on with the Nielson Rating System my opinion means nothing to the networks. That's all what really counts, the damn ratings and not showing episodes when they are meant to be shown.

It's sad, but so true.

But if Fox wants to push back the postseason a week to ten days to get the World Series in the November sweeps, baseball will say "Yes, Mr. Murdoch. Anything you say, Mr. Murdoch".

Perhaps it might help if Nielsen were to alter the scheduling of the November sweeps so that they always end the night before Thanksgiving (some years, and I think it's the case this year, the sweeps run through Thanksgiving weekend and will end the Wednesday night after Thanksgiving). That way, at least part of the World Series (if it goes past the minimum four games) would be during the November sweeps most years even with the current scheduling of baseball's postseason. Geting the entire Series during the sweeps would mean only pushing back the postseason by less than a week.

Re: How many of you are tired of having The Simpsons Treehouse of Horrors special being preempted into November?

More than likely several reruns of Treehouse will air on local stations halloween week.
