How tight is money at Cumulus? TRG do a lengthy in-show ad.

Move over Steve and Vicki. The Regular Guys handed over a segment this morning to a diet pill huckster. Ostensibly a contest called "The Interns Weight Loss Challenge" (or something like that), this bit was little more than a nice 10-minute spot for some guy's "all natural" weight-loss supplements. And surprise, surprise: the guy is kicking in a nice chunk of change to the intern who "wins" the "contest."

Cumulus. The power of infomercials.

I don't have a problem with this if they incorporate it into an entertaining segment. Half the stations on the west coast just run one hour blocks of pure infomercial. Which would you rather listen to (and "neither" isn't an option in this economy)? What's the difference if they do a Biggest Loser-type bit sponsored by some weight-loss huckster or a "Be SSS's 400th (or whatever number he's on) contest where the winner gets a diamond ring and it's judged and sponsored by the guy from Solomon Brothers?

Yeah, but still, 10 minutes in AM drive...plenty of time to go around the horn on the dial a few times.

Last week it did not have a sponsor so someone hustled to get one for the contest. A few weeks ago they alluded to having some meeting to get the show straight and mooving in the right drection and some references to syndication. I wonder if Cumulus is prepping them for sydicating to Cumulus stations in smaller markets.

The other day during the 7:00 hour they re-ran the Duff McKagan bit from the day before that ran late in the show. Something I can't recall them ever doing before.

You missed the point. If it's a good bit you'll stay. Nobody's gonna turn it off just cause they've got a sponsor tie-in. A good bit with a sponsor tie-in will still keep listeners more than a bad bit without one.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Please continue to monitor the Regular Guys program on 100.5 each day and report any similar incidents on this board.

TRG did mention a couple of times yesterday that Scott Ferrall was moving back to Atlanta and will be doing sports reports twice a week on their show.

I have to wonder if there is some 680 the Fan tie-in. Could Ferrall be joining the Fan or is he just going to do his satellite show from here? I noticed on his website Steelhorse Law is one of his ads. I am guessing they will sponsor his sports reports.

"Neither" is ALWAYS an option for listeners, and it is the option they usually choose when confronted with infotrash.

I also heard today that they had commercials between segments, and SSS started plugging his appearances and making sponsor mentions. Is this a trend we should worry about?

I missed the first healthytrim bit, but yesterday's episode wasn't too bad. The only really cringe-worthy moment was when SSSteve started doing his testimonial. Wow. God love ya Steve, but I haven't sat through acting that bad since "The Greenskeeper."

As long as this kind of marketing doesn't get out of hand, and as long as the sheeple don't care, then I say go for it. I never thought that Atlanta & Co. would last, but then that shows you how much I know.

For his next post, seabass will compare apples to oranges... ::)

Sean Hannity has followed Rush's lead and has started segueing into discussions (really, monologues) about the virtues of GM cars. I guess we won't hear a lot of complaining about the government bailout.

Whatever pays the bills in a PPM world...
