Howard Stern BASHES National Radio Hall of Fame

Years ago, when the Grand Daddy Of All Streaming Media sites, http://www.reelradio.com posted an old aircheck of The Grand Daddy Of All That Is Wrong In Media, Mr. Stern's and CBS' lawyers had it taken down in a New York menacing minute.

Most other air talent usually feels honored to have an exhibit on Reel Radio. Not so Mr. Stern. He is our generation's Arthur Godfrey.

After watching some of the video above, sounds like the whole issue was a long running urnination, I mean coronation match between the Radio Hall of Fame/Museum of Broadcast Communications founder Bruce DuMont, a nephew of that other more famous DuMont.

The gist of the story: DuMont's RHOF snubbed Stern for years, then he's finally inducted. Stern reacts with sour grapes, which is somewhat understandable. If you didn't like him then (and I didn't) then why should you like him now? (and I still don't.) Could it be...publicity? Nah, couldn't be.

Stern, to his credit, is the best judge of any of the talent shows on the air. Ooops, there goes that Godfrey comparison again.

Godfrey hosted a talent show; he did not judge it.

Godfrey also hosted a radio and TV talk show that was the first desk and couch program - Steve Allen got it from him.
Godfrey also hosted a prime time variety show.
Godfrey invented overnight radio.
Godfrey invented morning drive radio (Stern later did that).
Godfrey had hit records.
Godfrey appeared in movies.
Godfrey had a movie based (in part) on him (A Face in the Crowd).

Stern fired terrestrial radio.
