Howard Stern is the New Judge on "America's Got Talent"

So it seems Howard Stern is going to be the new Judge on America's Got Talent, replacing Piers Morgan.

If Howard doesn't get muzzled by the producers and doesn't become too politically correct (as he has been over the past 8 years), this should be fun.

Howie Mandell created the mold for talent-starved characters hosting TV Shows. Potty-Mouth Stern should flourish as well.

Not sure about talent starved, but the formula was actually created by Simon Cowell. People loved this wise cracking smart alec judge who was brutally honest. Since then every show with a judge has been trying to find one personality that is acerbic, whitty and truthful. It works. I only watched AGT for Piers Morgan. Sharon and Howie are basically useless.

Howard will be the king of that show, provided that the producers don't tinker with him too much. It's a brilliant move since Sharon and Howie are already friends with him so there won't be that awkward new judge period.

Really, you tune in to see Piers Morgan?

Well granted nothing else was on against AGT. But he certainly made me stay on there rather than go channel surfing. I wanted to see him rip the talentless acts apart. Think about it, it is like the Gladiator days and these brits know how to do it.

Actually I'd love it if Chuck Barris would cut the Gong Show rights loose and let Howard do that with Robin Quivers reprising the Jaye P Morgan part. But I'll check out this show once he's on board. Maybe he'll kick Seacrest's butt and put Idol out of our misery.

i don`t think anyone could do the gong show right these days..it was lightning in a bottle.i don`t believe that lightning could be captured today.

chuck barris had the hosting down perfect .stern would be too obviously sarcastic .the bad talent acts would seem forced on a new version compared to the ones which were on the original.

i would like to see the original gong show on tv again in reruns.a home video release would be fantastic.

now back to the original topic.

I feel like this may have been a story five years ago, but Howard Stern isn't culturally relevant like he was back then. Its as nearly as exciting as hearing that Steven Tyler would be a new host on "American Idol".

I guess if Newt Gingrich is tied for the lead amongst the Republican Presidential candidates, though, 90s throwback is definitely in full swing.

Maybe we can get the kid from "Jerry Maguire" to join the cast of "Jersey Shore"!

You may be right, but NBC and Simon Cowell certainly think he is. They not only are paying him 10 Million for the gig but they are moving the entire show over to New York to accomodate him. That really sounds like they do think he is worth the investment and that he is relevant. I certainly will be watching.

I may be very wrong and have to eat my words, but I don't see people turning out in droves to watch Howard Stern. He was culturally relevant to radio and pop culture essentially until he moved to Sirius, and has never had a big TV following (after several failed attempts), so I don't see the reasoning behind this.

To be fair, I've never seen "America's Got Talent" but this won't make me watch. I'm indifferent to Stern, though. I do, however, appreciate his envelope pushing and fighting for free speech but that doesn't make me watch him, just appreciate him for what he does.

Besides being uglier than Shreck, Stern's schtick, while successful on radio, fails on television. The reason could be similar to the TV flop of Frank Faye. Faye was a brilliant radio monologist, and was very successful in radio's early days. But TV viewers of the '50s were put off by his legendary oversized ego. TV is a more intimate medium where you can't hide yours warts.
