Howard Stern's Last Day On WXRK Could Be Ruined By......

......a transit strike!

It is my understanding that there is supposed to be an outdoor rally/celebration tomorrow (December 16th) to tie-in with Stern's last show for CBS/Infinity, including a symbolic walk after the show from the WXRK studios to Sirius headquarters.

But at this writing (6:30 P.M. EST, December 15th), there was a possibility that a strike by MTA (Metropolitan Transit Authority) workers could take place at 12:01 A.M., and that several streets that were to have been closed-off for part of the morning due to the Stern event may have to stay open to traffic to accomodate extra cars going into New York because the subways and city buses would not be running.

Several news reports on the Internet at this writing suggest that there wasn't much of a chance to prevent a transit strike.

I hope to hell there is a strike so there is a kabosh on the party. although I feel bad for the poor commuters. If its anything like Philadelphia, they will reach an agreement at the last second.

Strike.

huh? SEPTA went on a strike for more then a week! There was no agreement until the governor got involved... and why would you want a strike? It means it costs more for everyone to get around. not to mention the loss shops take when people dont come out. No one wins.
As for Stern, I could careless what he does. He can run naked to the Sirius for all I care.

Why doesn't infinity hurt Stern by not letting him broadcast tomorrow. At this point it doesn't help infinity to keep him on the air and what a great way to say good riddence by killing his show during the last hurrah. That's what I would do.

Because, that is EXACTLY what Stern would want so that he could go on the air on Sirius and bash them. The problem is, once he gest on Sirius, he can say whatever he wants, and it will be a no-prisoners type of thing. Gawd knows what he's already got planned for day one, so why instigate him?

IMHO.

Because they will get their highest ratings of the year with everyone listening to and taping the last Howard Stern show. They don't want to ruin their station's images.<P ID="signature">______________

I forgot about that strike in Philadelphia. You're absolutely right. I also retract the statement about the strike in NY. It Isn't fair to everyone else involved. It's supposed to be sloppy weather on thier (stern's) parade anyway.

Passafist:

When it became public that Stern's last show on WXRK will be on December 16th, the whole week was sold out. K-Rock probably got high ad rates for this week.

Why would Infinity risk losing advertising dollars by having Stern leave a day earlier? The advertisers have a RIGHT to ask for a refund, especially if they want to advertise strictly on the Stern Show.
