Howie Carr - Arbiter of Taste & the CITGO sign

The Citgo sign! We're in the middle of changing Governors and Howie is talking about...THE CITGO SIGN.

I like the Citgo sign. I like Chavez. Muffy must go! Tell Healy to go spend her hubby's money on elocution classes - and she should bring Howie along while she's there.

I swear to God I would rather hear Deval Patrick get the 4 hours a day up until election time to talk to us rather than hear this buffoonery about an electric sign. Howie - maybe you could interview a book author regarding Quantum Physics or algebra --- ANYTHING is more exciting than the friggin' CITGO SIGN~

and p.s. Chaves was right!

The only thing less important or interesting about what Howie Carr thinks about the Citgo sign is what you think about what Howie Carr thinks of the Citgo sign; never have seen a poster so full of themselves.

If you like Chavez and his philosophy so much, try moving to his country. Then, try posting your own thoughts on anything Venezuela while there.

[EDIT]

[EDIT=name calling]

35 cents per gallon for gas, is it not in South L'America? Viva Chavez! Thanks for the Ad Hominem attack - Howie's on the air - I am not - as many here keep reminding us. So let's keep the focus on the radio personalities. Thank you for your humble compliance with this request.

The alleged "talk station" chats about...the Citgo sign! HA!

Viva Chavez!

"While George Bush can appoint the government of Iraq and call it "sovereign," the government of Venezuela is appointed by its people. And most of the people of Venezuela look in the mirror and see, like Chavez, someone "negro e indio ".

Let's face it, the rich hate Chavez." (from Susan's Soap Box)

1) You brought up Chavez in your previous post, not me - thus, it warrants a comment. If that does not suit your fancy, don't give such opinions on a radio-related posting board.

2) Refer to the last line of my previous post. Pretty much expresses my opinion about your opinion regarding anything.

Humbly yours,

Dano

It is a news story that makes for good blue collar radio.

BTW I support sending the UN HQ to Siberia, without the US representative

So your filth is off the air on public access? Thank god my money is no longer being used to spread your UnAmerican Activites Joe!

Technically, Smoke, I'm on cable. Did I say I was "on the air?"

My interviews with Justice League of America author Brad Meltzer, film author Joe Schaefer and others are still on in many areas around Massachusetts. Enjoy.

IPlease feel free to move to Venezuala and even attempt to express the free speech you so freely exercise on these boards.

I'm not rich and I believe Chavez to be a mentally unbalanced tinpot dictator. The government of Iraq was elected by the people but don't let facts get in your way.

I'm not a Carr fan or a conservative, but I think it's good that Americans start paying attention to world affairs and start questioning where their oil comes from. I applaud people who adhere to their principles in chosing their gas, instead of putting a "Support our troops" sticker on their SUV and thinking it somehow makes them patriotic. I dislike Bush, but I do respect the office of the American presidency, and no foreigner has the right to come here and insult him on American soil. I am an American, I can insult Bush, Chavez can not!

In fact, Chavez used to host a call-in radio show where people could call up and ask the president a question. He would debate callers and would sometimes spend all day on the air. The show was so popular that it is now a television show.

Chavez was elected president and has 70% support in his country. He is focused on helping the poor in his own country, and is the only oil country ruler to offer a plan for our poor to get discounted oil.

Our neocon leaders demonize the poor and he demonizes our leader. And then the tough guy righties cry for their mommy and want to take away his Citgo sign. It's pathetic.

I have a friend from college from Venezuela, we used to keep in touch all the time. Then one day I sent an e-mail asking her about how Chavez changed the Venezuelan flag. Haven't heard from her since. Interesting right? Could be a coincidence. Or it could be the chilling effect Chavez's antics have on free speach for Venezuelans.

More likely, she has a boyfriend or something. Chavez hasn't shut down the press there.

Everyone in TV and Radio in New England did the Citgo Sign story yesterday. I saw two networks cover the story nationally. Taking issue with his choice is another example of why Varulven hasn't worked in the media for three decades.

More likely, I know the situation a bit better than you. Funny how the communication stopped when one of Chavez's antics was the subject.

Strickly speaking, when you go to the U.N. you leave the United States.
The United Nations building is on International land. So whatever you and I think of Chavez, he technically did not insult the president while on "American soil".

As for Howie Carr, he sells soap for a living, be it in print or on the air.

While the comments about the U.N. may be true, what is your explanation for the following (from Yahoo news):

NEW YORK (AP): A day after Chavez used the UN bully pulpit to call Bush "the devil" a "tyrant" who acts like he owns the world -- prompting broad condemnation in the United States -- Chavez was equally vitriolic as he spoke at the Olivet Baptist church in the New York neighborhood of Harlem.

"Bush is an alcoholic, a sick man with a lot of hang-ups," declared the left-wing Venezuelan leader. "He walks like John Wayne."

We have freedom of speech in America--if Chavez wishes to exercise that right, he can, whether in good or bad taste. It doesn't matter where he's standing at any given time.

And as far as the "alcoholic/John Wayne" thing goes, it's pretty much true--if something is a truism, why quibble over the geographic location of the speaker?
