Howie Carr's radio show to be co-owned by The Boston Globe???

The Boston Herald reports that "Under the terms of the 10-year deal, the Sox will have the option to buy a minority stake in Entercom’s talk station WRKO-AM (690) "http://business.bostonherald.com/businessNews/view.bg?articleid=138469while the Boston Globe notes what we all know:May 9, 2006 Page 2 of 2 --(The New York Times Co., owner of The Boston Globe, holds a 17 percent stake in the Red Sox.)http://www.boston.com/business/glob...be_split_between_wrko_weei_in_radio_accord/do the math - Boston Globe co-owns The Sox, The Sox co-own WRKOHowie Carr goes off the air at 6:30 PM unless he writes for The Globe. Can you say...Hackerama...

Yes, Globe and Herald alike can mix up frequencies, etc.Howie's show will be on til 7 pm no matter what, but WRKO will bail out (as they have with Celts games that started at 7); people will just have to tune to WCRN to hear that last half hour...and maybe WEEI will do one of those "special games" on weekday afternoons (or WMKK, WAAF, etc)Though once this past yr (MLKing Day), Howie's show took a back seat to a 3 pm Celtics game.by the way, mentioned Jerry Williams on a FreeRepublic thread and that led me back to JerryWilliams.org where I heard (again) that 1990 talk the Dean had with Ted K re: FCC/cross-ownership/Herald, etc.

Globe article today (see sep. thread) says WEEI will have about 30 games next year including Friday nights and weekday afternoons (so as not to pre-empt Howie); would guess Opening Day, and Home Opener (if Sox open on the road, and thus there would be _two_ opening days, technically) would be on WEEI. Or maybe them ANDWRKO. "Welcome to the 2007 Red Sox here on the WRKO Red Sox Network. Only today we're on WEEI because it's a weekday game."This also affects the few spring training weekday games (1 pm) they'll do.
