I CAN ALMOST IMAGINE THE "FINAL" SIGN-OFF OF WILD!

You are 100% correct. If the numbers worked there'd be a Urban AC in Boston. But they don't, and that's not going to change in the immediate future.

I'm sorry I took this off the subject, but it is about W I L D, so this is related to their format. This needs to be heard.

Radio Program Management Personal for Magic 106.7, and Mix 104.1 , and 92.9 needs to read these and go out and see who your real listener. I'm not saying change your format. I'm saying there are a lot of good music out there. Focus on more Urban AC music. There are a lot of good music out there, as well as great radio programs as I mentioned earlier. Focus more on that music.

92.9 would be a great station to change to AC, or HOT AC, but focus more on Urban AC music. If they can't do that, if 97.7 and 93.7 can't do that, then, Mix 104.1, and Magic 106.7 should focus nore on Urban AC music

It's not for me personnally. And don't tell me to get an MP Player, or a HD Radio. It's not for me personnally. These ideas are for the real listenners who were left out in the dark when Star 93.7 was taken away and when W I L D was taking away in exange for their talk network and left with no radio hosts. It's not for me personnally

Just because you all don't like this music, just because you all don't support doesn't give you the right to discurrage me, and my good ideas.

I'm putting these for Radio Program Management Personal. Not for anyone else

Another listenner of Magic 106.7 is a Young 36 year old Arabic Man who work at a Parking Collector Booth at a Train station in Revere. Normally Arabic people mostly listens to their Uptempo/and Hip Hop Sounding music. But this guy chose to listen to Magic 106.7. He had other choices, but he chose to listen to Magic 106.7. He told me, he enjoy their music very much. He like their personalities very much.
This is another real listenner, and whome I doubt woule have time to take a survey if asked to do so, because I know he works two jobs, and works very hard.

Instead of looking at numbers, go out and see who your (real) listenner is.

Focus more on todays music

Uncle K: You're right. CH would begin for WILD at 2:15 in December. When still in RI, I'd hear WBAL
solidly behind WILD during those times. And LAUROJRM, if the $$$ and numbers were there to support an Urban AC in Boston, it would have been done a long time ago. I'm thinking it may be differing musical tastes there. Here in Philly, we have 2 UAC's: WDAS 105.3, and WRNB 107.9. 'DAS is pretty much a heritage station, and does quite well in the ratings. WRNB is a Radio One outlet, and has been able to carve out a niche for itself.

@DG, i used to live in Trenton (off and on) for three years for about three months each year (1997, 1998, and 2004) All times there I used to listen to WDAS 105.3, Power 99, and in 1997, and 1998 when they were HOT AC=WJRZ 100.1) I loved WDAS 105.3 the most

Even as metro Boston's demos are changing, fact is that it's not even as diverse as Hartford, much let alone NYC (where my oldest niece now lives). Here, it now seems that Kiss is an "established rhythmic" CHR, whereas Jam'n is an "established urban" rhythmic, plus of course there are the illegals - TXs, that is. As one who loves disco, I hate to say so, but there's no room for urban here in Boston. If Mindish does sell FNX (LOL), the Spanish format will be on 101.7 way before any urban.

I'm not saying Urban

I keep saying, and you all getting more mad at me

I keep saying, if there is no room (as you all are saying) for an Urban AC, then 92.9 should change to AC/or HOT AC, but with more focus on Urban AC music. Play new Vivian Green, Angie Stone, Ruben Studdard, if 92.9 can not change, than, either MIX 104.1, or Magic 106.7 should focus more on New Urban AC music, play more new Angie Stone, Vivian Green, and Ruben Studdard.
Radio Program Management Personal has to do something. The people are out there

Because you do not listen. You keep repeating the same very spelling-challenged thing over and over and refuse to understand that it will never happen.

WMJX 106.7 is a billing monster, and WBOS 92.9 is very profitable since it has no jocks. WBMX 104.1 also does well. No company with even half a brain will launch an Urban AC in Boston. Hot AC's playing Urban AC music aren't really Hot AC's are they?
The potential audience and profits (if any) would be far smaller than the existing formats currently generate. Why is it so hard for you to understand this very simple fact?

Why do people say "bad things"? Because your "ideas" have no basis in reality.
Entercom cannot "higher the signal" of anything without approval from the FCC, and that is close to impossible. 97.7 moved their transmitter closer to Boston a few years ago in a deal with Saga. That signal is as good as it's ever going to get.
And I'll say it again (why I don't know, because you don't seem to listen)... If Boston could financially support an Urban AC there would be one. The African-American population just isn't big enough to make a profit.

LAUROJRM said:
I would suggest an idea, but everyone always get mad at me and say bad things to me here

I'm sure Entercom can do this, but they choose not to.

Actually, they can move INTO Boston if they want. They would have to change the city of License, probably to Somerville, but that's no big deal
because Brockton has two AMs licensed to it.

Even if it would be technically possible,
it would take alot of $$$ to make it happen.
If the format doesn't work on a small
station with comparatively small expenses/overhead,
it would fail that much faster on a larger station...
Moe, Larry and Shemp really need to get an Ipod -
crank it up real loud, and have at it! ::) ::) ::)

You know, WILD has to do something to change its fortunes before it goes down the tubes. First of all, Radio One has to sell it to a local group. The group that buys the station should have it broadcast 24/7/365, with a power of 100 watts from sunset until sunrise. They can keep the Tom Joyner Morning Show from 6 a.m. until 10 a.m., follow it up with its talk shows, then spend the evening playing a mix of urban and urban AC from 4 p.m. until midnight, then go to Gospel music from midnight until 6 a.m., when Tom Joyner comes back on. On Saturdays, we can have classic soul in the morning and more hip hop and urban contemporary music from lunchtime to midnight. From Midnight Sunday until 6 a.m. Monday, they can play gospel music.
We should also see if we get them to take over one of the pirate FMs as a translator. They can also piggyback as an HD channel on one of the FM stations in Boston, as well as a station on both the North and South shores. And by all means, WILD should re-activate its web page, as well as make their signal available to cell phone users.
Plus, it should start selling local advertising time again and get the business in the Boston area to sponsor shows on their station.

That can not be legally done. WBAL in Baltimore is too powerful up here at night to allow that, and if I'm correct, WBAL's night signal is still protected by the FCC up here. If there was any way that WILD could have gotten licensed to do that before on 1090, they would have.

They already operate with less than 25 watts for one half-hour after sunset on a "Post-Sunset Authority", but even that would not be allowed to continue any later at night, and once WBAL really kicks in at night, that <25 watts wouldn't even make it from Medford/Everett to Boston clearly.

blackgold said:

I don't think that can happen. None of the pirate FM's in Boston would be legally licensed by the FCC as a translator. They are on frequencies that are unauthorized for legal broadcast, of any sort, at any power (above Part 15), in the Boston area per the FCC.

And, a legal station (WILD) would not risk its license by simulcasting on an illegal, unlicensed (pirate) station.

blackgold said:

They could perhaps get a Boston FM to put them on a (so far) unused HD3 channel, but I don't think there are any possibilities for any frequencies available for any new full-power stations on the North or South Shores, and neither of the North or South Shore FM stations (WBOQ, WATD) broadcast in HD, so they don't have additional HD channels.

That would be great I'd love to see it happen, but it would take a large paid staff in sales, promotions, IT, engineering, web design, etc... to do it all. The station is operating on a shoestring budget with a skeleton staff. Where are they going to get the money to pay the staff necessary to launch and develop those initiatives?

So, you're advocating WILD be a pirate with this 100 watts? It's a daytimer. Do you think they should just send a one finger salute to the FCC?
As for the "pirate as a translator" comment, there are no words...
The "piggyback on the HD2" thing is..well....not gonna happen.

Isn't WCRB-FM HD-2 available? And if not, what about WCRB-FM HD-3?

They are both unused as of now, but that would work only for north of Boston, not for a format targeting Boston and its neighborhoods. HD reception of WCRB HD-1 is very spotty in Boston. It would work for the Merrimack Valley and the metro-north Boston suburbs, but reception of a WCRB HD subchannel in much of the City of Boston would be difficult and inconsistent at best.

1090, even 10 years ago, was an amazing community resource, with local newscasts, public affairs programming, etc. It's a shame what happened to it. They still were making money at the time, it's just that Mrs. Nash wanted to retire, no? I'd imagine in a neighborhood less likely to be receiving much penetration from residential wifi, ergo online news junkies, it still could be. Radio One would probably turn in the license at this point before it considered selling the station for dirt-cheap, though, and given the FCC no longer approves daytimers ...

Blackgold (a few lines up) had some good ideas.

The cloest thing that Radio Program Management Program Directors can do, if they can not get an Urban AC, the cloest thing I think they should do is disregard 93.7 Mike FM

Besides having Funkytown on 93.7 HD2, put it also on 93.7. Higher 93.7 signal within inside (all of Boston) because parts of Boston, 93.7 can not be heard (on a walkman, on any walkman, I assume it's the same if you live or work there when you use a regular radio..) So, Keep their current signal, as well as higher their signal for all of inside Boston can listen.

-Funkytown 93.7 WQFX-
-Week-
Midnight-2pm Funkytown 93.7, and Funkytown HD2 play (same music/"Continious Music")
-2pm-6pm on Funkytown 93.7 "Doug Banks Radio Show" AURN.COM
-6pm-7pm Funkytown 93.7, and Funktown HD2 (play same/"Continious Music") ETC....
-7pm-Midnight Funkytown 93.7 "Keith Sweat Hotel" Premrad.com
-Saturdays-
-Midnight-7am "Continious Music" (Same as above Midnight-2am, and same as 6pm-7pm)
-7am-Noon Syndicated Urban AC Programming
-Noon-7pm "Continious Music" (Same as above)
-7pm-9pm Syndicated Urban AC Programming
-9pm-Midnight Syndicated Top 30 Countdown Programming
-Sunday-
-Midnight-2am (Syndicated Dance Music Programming)
-2am-6am "Continious Music" (Same above)
-6am-7am PSA Program
-7am-9am Syndicated Urban AC Programming
-9am-Noon Syndicated AC Programming
-Noon-7pm Continious Programming
-7pm-9pm Syndicated HOT AC/CHR Countdown Programming
-9pm-Midnight Syndicated AC/HOT AC Countdown Programming

This is my idea what 93.7 should do. They are the ones who took away Star 93.7. (Star 93.7) was the cloest thing to what we had other than W I L D. Star 93.7 was a second choice to listen to at night when W I L D went off the air. That's why I say, that Radio Program Management Personal should do that. They should disregard 93.7 Mike FM, and make it "Funkytown 93.7"
If they do it right, and get the right signal, they will last longer. Trust me 100% I promise to you and promise to God, their station will last longer if they program it right. This is not for me personnally. This is for the listenners who lost W I L D 1090am and Star 93.7.

Radio Program Management has to do something, go out and see who the real listenners are.

These are my ideas

You still don't understand that the FCC will not allow 93.7 to move their transmitter closer to Boston, and their power is already at the legal maximum per the FCC. If they could have done it, they already would have. There are other stations on the same or adjacent channels elsewhere that are being protected by the FCC from potential interference.

You seem to believe that the stations with transmitters in the suburbs that may not come in very well in Boston simply "don't feel like" serving Boston with a better signal in the city. You have no understanding of FCC regulations, and when you suggest they just set up a transmitter inside Boston like the pirates do, it's clear that you also don't understand what's legal and what isn't.

The owners of stations like 93.7 and 97.7 (etc..), which were originally suburban stations with transmitters much farther from Boston, have spent sizable amounts of money on moving their transmitters as close to Boston as they are legally allowed by the FCC, and putting as much power toward Boston as they are legally allowed by the FCC. They are not legally allowed to do anything more.
