I CAN ALMOST IMAGINE THE "FINAL" SIGN-OFF OF WILD!

Yeah and Jill Stein has a few supporters but that doesn't mean she will be elected. Mike 93.7 plays stuff like "I Ain't No Holla Back Girl", "In Da Club", etc but who knows maybe the stuff you like
might get aired. They are going for mass appeal. Maybe what you want is on Kiss 108 though
and Mike 93.7 is appealing to diff. listeners--rock heavy with some R&B influence.

{snip} I just hope it's sold to someone who will bring it back toward its former greatness under the Nash family ownership.

Unfortunately the whole radio and audio entertainment landscape has dramatically changed since the glory days of WILD. It just might not be possible given the market of today for a station like WILD to duplicate what it did in the Sonny Joe White days.

I will say that sometimes, it can be the SALES department more than the programming department that can make or break a station. But there are just too many alternatives today for WILD to regain it's former greatness.

Just my opinion.

that's not the only music that I like @Raccoonradio and everyone else.

As I said, it's not for me, it's for all the listenners who lost W I L D and Star 93.7

KISS 108 doesn't play that music. They do play, as you said 50 Cent, and Hollarback and ....

Yes, I do hear some of that music on 93.7 such as 50 Cent, Wil Smith, and Gwen Stephani. All I'm saying is, they say they play everything. But they never play new Whitney Houston, New Ruben Studdard, new Anthony Hamilton music) Magic 106.7 and MIX 104.1 can also play that music, but they don't. It's nice music to listen to, there's nothing wrong with Whitney Houston, yes Magic 106.7 plays a few Whitney Houston songs, but add some Ruben Studdard music.

As I was saying the other day, at our Health Center, throughout the building, in some offices, they have a Speaker. When you put on the speaker, the station that Administration/Maintance Manager allow the hospital to have on is "Magic 106.7" Yes, that station is ok. I enjoy listenning to them a lot, their personalities are great, and sound very nice and relaxing to listen to. At the hospital, most of the employees, besides Americans, most of the hospital employees are Carrribean, African American, and Vietnamese. Most of the patients are Caribbean, and African American. These people don't listen to Magic 106.7 by choice, they listen to it because it's the only station we get at our Medical Center. So Magic 106.7 should highly consider playing some New Urban AC music.
Within the Urban areas of Boston (Roxbury, Mattapan, and South End to name a few) On the back of the bus, you see an advertisement (Magic 106.7) Most buses have that advertise, everywhere in this area. Sice some of these buses are in those Urban Areas of Boston, it would be nice for Magic 106.7 to consider and cater to playing some (not all) some Urban AC music.
I'm not saying play ALL Urban AC music. I'm just saying, play some Ruben Studdard Music, play some Anthony Hamilton music.
My coworkers I work with, two American Woman, one is Irish American, another is German American. Both ladies are in their 60s. The Irish American lady likes Luther Vandros music which Magic 106.7 plays (that I hear) two songs. The German American lady likes Reggae music which Magic 106.7 plays (as I hear, three-five songs) "Say Hey", "Baby I Love Your Way" Big Mountain, and "Close To You" by Maxi Priest to name a few.

I'm not saying change your formats. Just add some more Urban AC music. The best stations to do that would be both or either Magic 106.7 and Mix 104.1 Both stations are heard very well in and outside Boston. If one can't do it, than the other should do it. Because as I said few days ago about some ??? (???? Caribean/??Spanish) he might've been either, he was listenning to Mix 104.1. Yes, that's one person, but that one person can make a big difference, and if they like that station, they can tell one other person, then that other person would listen, and that second person will tell a third, and so on. That's how they have to consider their (real listenners) not only use numbers and ratings, also look and consider those real listenners out there. Don't get me wrong, both stations are great. Both stations are now heard all throughout inside and outside Boston. This is 2010. Do something to make things better

I agree LAUROJRM

93.7 Mike FM does not play EVERYTHING, they play the same stupid songs you hear on most Boston stations.  Nothing special about it, and it is heavy on rock.  Magic 106.7 is your typical AC which I agree could play more soul and R&B music because soul music is also included in AC playlists.  Mix 104.1 is also heavy on rock, and not a station I listen to.  I don't see them adding R&B or even more dance music.  Hot AC seems to include mostly pop rock.  The closest you will come to the old format of WILD and Star 93.7 is 103.3 WODS, which is the Boston station I listen most to.  They play more soul and disco than any station in Boston, plus they also play some 80's R&B and dance.  I am thinking many of the WILD and Star listeners have found a new home on 103.3 WODS (until the Christmas music comes).  Jam'n 94.5 could play more 80's and 90's hip-hop and R&B music also.  Kiss 108 could add some 80's and 90's pop and dance music to the CHR mix.  Fun 107 (107.1) in New Bedford is mostly CHR rhythmic with some older songs mixed in.  105.7 WROR which is heavy on rock hits could also play more 70's and 80's soul and R&B music, since they cover the 60's, 70's, and 80's.  It would be great if everyone 12 and older in the Boston listening area could receive a survey asking what music and stations they listen to, instead of just a select few.  Then everyone could be heard from and we might see some changes in Boston radio.

everything you said @Radiojay1 is good, and you always have good responces. I also (kind of) agree with you about Mix 104.1 not playing R&B. But they do play some Wil Smith music, as well as some Kate Perry music. Wil Smith is the cloest they will play to R&B music. Their station is great and play some great music, and nice personalities as well. I'm not saying change your format, this is 2010, and they just got a new signal so everyone within the city of inside Boston and outside the city can hear Mix 104.1, therefore they should highly consider playing some (NEW) R&B music such as I mentioned (Whitney Houston, Ruben Studdard, Angie Stone, and Calvin Richardson) I listen to them and Magic 106.7. If Mix 104.1 can't play those music, than, yes, Magic 106.7 should consider playing that music. Both stations have the best signal inside all of Boston as well as outside Boston. And as I said a few lines up, some Buses have (Magic 106.7) advertised in Urban areas of Boston (Roxbury, Southend, and Dorchester) to name a few towns. So they should highly consider adding some new (R&B) music to their playlist as I just mentioned those singers.
Let me give you an example of a (real) listener. Back in the day when I was in highschool, one of my older sister's friends, that girl was (had a Disability-she was little slow-not too bad) anyways, she saw a radio station advertised on tv. I forgot which station??, maybe it was WROR, or ?? Country 99.5. After she saw that ad on the TV, she was listenning to that station. I found that out because her and her friend was in the same class. Her friend asked her what she was listenning to, and she was like ("COUNTRY 99.5"-<<<Example). Now, she was a new listenner because she saw that ad on the TV, and she told her friend, so that's another person who knows about Country 99.5, that's new (Real) listenners
Those are the type who are (Real) listenners.
That's why I say, sice (Magic 106.7) advertise their station on buses, and those buses are in Urban Areas of Boston that advertise (Magic 106.7) I'm not saying change your format, I'm just saying, consider these type of listeners, and consider playing some NEW R&B) for these type of listenners.

What's ironic about Mike 93.7 is that while it may be seen as "an mp3 player on shuffle", it only covers the types of music that some people may like--despite alleged diversity. If your type of
music is not really what they play one solution is to, ironically enough, buy an mp3 player and
fill it with your own favorite types of music and listen to that.

They are offering _some_ variety but going toward mass appeal whenever possible. Sure, some
may tune out when certain songs come on but they do have a core demo, and an attractive one.
My blues show on WMWM has some types of music that people might enjoy but Mike might not
think so. (I play a lot of newer releases and some classics and throw stuff in like--well, on
yesterday's show, I threw in 'oldies' like Ain't Got No Home and I Don't Know Why (But I Do)
by Clarence Frogman Henry and Let it Rock by Chuck Berry. I played a cut from the forthcoming
Buddy Guy & BB King release. Will Mike play that? No. How about Foghat--yes, that Foghat.
Do you know they have a new CD out? I played a cut from it yesterday. Doubt Mike will.
But OK, maybe they'll dip into the vaults for Slow Ride...

But they will play Paradise by the Dashboard Light, In Da Club, Closing Time, Faith, The
Tide is High, Unbelievable, Beverly Hills, You Got Lucky, etc.

While it is "we play everything" (allegedly) it actually narrows down to certain types of music
that a certain generation/demo may enjoy. The oddball factor is maybe when they throw in
a country song like Friends in Low Places, standards like That's Amore, maybe an oh-wow oldie
like early 80s Sausalito Summernight, etc.

For real variety some may want to check out something like college radio. My show (boast,
boast) has stuff like the local cajun/zydeco bands Boogaloo Swamis and Squeezebox Stompers,
classics from Little Walter (not the oldies DJ) and Muddy Waters, Maria Muldaur, Bob Malone
(Calif.-based pianist), the New Orleans sounds of Clifton Chenier and Big Al Carson, and
the great folk-blues duo of Paul Rishell and Annie Raines.

Great music, IMO. None of which is on We Play Everything 93.7

Just once, for kicks, maybe Mike should play Muddy's "You Need Love"--which got stolen
by Led Zeppelin for "Whole Lotta Love". Or the jug band cuts on Maria Muldaur's recent
album. Or the rousing "Big Bayou" by the Swamis. Or...
(Note: yeah, 93.7 may play Maria's Midnight at the Oasis but they won't play cuts from
her recent album...)

Baby, way down inside. Woman you need love.

btw doesn't Entercom do the Star 93.7 sound, kinda, on HD radio with Funkytown? You can get that $40 portable (and hope it comes in) or listen online

http://star937fm.com/

Obviously the fact that Star 93.7 was relegated to HD radio as an extra means they felt it
wasn't commercial enough to put on the big 93.7 signal everyone can get. I don't know what
ratings Star 93.7 got but they figured they'd try to do a "Jack/Frank" type station and not have
DJs (some of those stations do, believe it or not) to save money. Fairly mass appeal, low cost.
Get good ratings, get good billing. If it weren't for the fact that they are, you would be hearing anything from Star 93.7 again to a WEEI simulcast on 93.7 right now.

And btw I've mentioned before that my post office job has limited FM reception due to new lighting
on the workroom floor, although better recep comes in if you're in the breakroom. Pretty much
when you're on the workroom floor you can get:

WMKK 93.7--transmitter in Peabody
WCRB 99.5--transmitter in Andover

And maybe, if we're lucky, WBZ-FM 98.5 for the Pats game tonight.

Given the two stations above, for SOLID reception, care to guess what station the boomboxes at work play?
Yup. (Although some people when they want to relax may put "WGBH. All Classical" on.
How'd you like to pretty much have to rely on Mike 93.7 for rock/R&B type listening at work?

For what it's worth, I see more and more of my co-workers with...

...

...mp3 players.

as I keep saying, it's not for me
I already have an MP3 player with the songs that I like. It's rude to tell people to buy their own MP3 playe.

It's not for me

This site is to put ideas and talk about radio and tv broadcast, not to tell others to buy an MP3 player

This is what the radio stations are doing--putting on certain types of music they feel will
make them money, and in effect THEY are saying "don't like it, get an mp3 player". Or an
HD radio--you know, the one they advertise that has all those hidden stations?...At work,
my co-workers use mp3 players because we get 2 music stations, one being Mike and
one being 99.5, on the workroom floor. What if I want to hear country on 102.5? It used to
come in. Not now. So I already have an mp3 player and can load Tom T. Hall or Toby Keith
CDs on it...or blues or whatever. Because the lights at work make 102.5 impossible to pick up
while working.

It's mass appeal and playing to the biggest audiences. You can e-mail Entercom, etc and say what you think Mike 93.7 could play but they look at the ratings and see the people who like
Tom Petty, Madonna, Pink Floyd, Goo Goo Dolls, etc. apparently outnumber you. (Facebook for Mike 93.7: "3,783 people like Mike FM")

(oh look;
acc. to tunegenie/the Mike 93.7 site "recently played" they recently played To Sir With Love
by Lulu. OK, so that's a BIT of variety.

I'm not telling you to buy an mp3 player necessarily; I'm saying the big radio stations offer
what they want and if you are unable to convince them to play your favorite stuff, you
MAY wind up getting one as a last recourse. Until you or I have enough money to buy a station and play what WE want for a mass audience (once a month or so I get to do that
on a small college station, though) we have to deal with the big companies like Entercom.

I'd like them to run Dennis Miller at night. They run Michael Savage. You can't always get what you want.

im telling you lauro you have an agenda and coming on here isnt going to help you need to email the station telling the what you wnt to hear, and have your friends at your work do the same and maybe you might get your point and they MIGHT change but untill then make a comment and dont let it be about your agenda thank you.

this is not my agenda, this has to do with two stations that got lost and left their listenners in the dark. Those stations didn't work out well because Management didn't work enough to make it better. There are a lot of great radio programming out there that no Radio Management looks for to better their stations. If they would've worked harder, their stations would've last longer

yea but i understand that but what about the people who lost wbcn??? you odont think they feel robbed even though it was declining in ratings, everything cant be about star 93.7 with the jungle music everyone has a say!!

for those who lost WBCN, those listenners have a few choices. WAAF on (both) 107.3 and 97.7, WFNX 101.7, WBOS 92.9, and WZLX 100.7, not counting the ones that I can get from NH and RI but I'm living in Salem, Ma

ok ok ok ok ok, you all are righr WBZFM2010, Raccoonradio, etc, all you are right. Sorry. I never mean to say nothing bad or never mean to do nothing bad to no one, it's just ideas, but not to hurt no one. You all are right. I will try harder to accept all your advice and help much better.
Thank you for all your advice and input thus far.
You all are right
I got advice from a (PRO). He's a Program Director from one of Dial-Global 24/7 Formats. He said mostly the same as you all always tell me. And I have to say, you all are right

it's ok, no harm done, now I understand @Everyone here
I'll try my hardest to also try to understand everyone here and accept all your advices. I know you all trying to help, thank you for your supports. And yes, I also work in radio, a famous radio station here in Boston. I'd rather not say which one, but it is very famous here in Boston. I've been in the business for over ten years (11)
anyways thank you for all your help

oh i c well thats a diffrent story why cant you go to your superiors and make your point??? i agree boston does need to wake up and give us a format change of some kind the sports hub has me complaining much less but still!!
