I heard on the Afternoon Underdogs that Lach is leaving 840.

His wife got a job in Charlotte.

Yeah I'm sure she did, Miss Unregistered Guest. But is that what's driving this bus?

There's a really big rumor going around that Clear Channel is cutting 30% of its programming workforce by the end of the year because they're strapped for cash. Lots of big names going into "retirement" at about the same time.

CC just sold $400 million worth of towers that they will now lease from the new owners.

And another rumor going around is that a new sports station is coming on the air.

If all the above is true- my guess is Lachlan is leaving because that job is going away.

If Lachlan's wife got a job in Charlotte I guess that stupid court show she hosted was cancelled by WBKI or whatever station it was on.
The new sports station is WLCL 93.9 that was bought by Union Broadcasting who owns WHBE 680 / 105.7. Reports are that CBS Sports Radio will be on there.

I keep waiting for the day that Terry Meiners "retires". It'll happen before he is ready and even though I don't listen to him or anything on 84 (sorry, "840"), I'd hate to see it happen since he is a likable person... but I'm amazed he has lasted as long as he has given his employer.

Lachlan's wife did get a job in Charlotte, though, and in fact it seems that she was hired a few months ago... working for Carowinds amusement park (I'm guessing she'll be doing the same thing she did at Six Flags here, not operating the rides). But as mentioned, there probably is more to the story than her seeing "hey, there's this job available in Charlotte that I would be perfect for."

I don't know- if she got that job a few months ago it might just be a happy coincidence. Let's see if they replace him.

Terry could easily be around till he retires. Sure he probably makes a lot of money, but he probably brings a lot of money into the building as well. And if you want to launch an FM to carry your heritage news talk- are you sure you want to get rid of your most well known air personality? That has to be a factor.

I hadn't heard about 840 launching an FM. Wonder what the odds are of 100.5 MY FM becoming the WHAS FM signal. MY FM has sure been a flop.

Mr meiners show certainly has changed over the years. Not as comedic a show as it was at one time. Be ashame if iheart gave him his walking papers. Use to love buz baxter and news lysses etc...Just lots of funny stuff over the 29 years he has been there. As far as my 100.5 goes i would like to here an old school hip hop station. Jamz 1005.5 hip hop from back n da day.

The problem WHAS has is deeper than not being on FM... they're a talk radio station, and talk radio stopped picking up new listeners decades ago. The ones that they have are dedicated listeners and will probably live for a few more decades, but would simulcasting WHAS on FM actually help them gain new "replacement" listeners? You won't find too many people out there under the age of 40 (perhaps you could even stretch that out to 50) who really care about what anybody on WHAS or any talk radio host says, aside from some younger people who are drowning in debt and cling to Dave Ramsey with their dear lives (and there aren't even that many of those).

The only real benefit I could see is to help them stop hemorrhaging the listeners that they currently have who are now buying radios without AM bands on them. But at the end of the day, would it really make much of a difference?

I tuned in tonight at 8PM to WHAS hoping to hear sports talk about the big U of L vs. UK basketball game tomorrow but I was surprised to hear a Dave Ramsey rerun. What's up with that? Is IHeartMedia just going to have WKRD do all of their sports coverage now?

There is an article in today's Courier Journal about Lachlan Mclean. His last show on WHAS is on May 15.

I could be wrong on this, as I only heard the tail end of the sentence as I was tuning in, but I thought I heard Lach let a caller something to the effect he "would be back on the map and/or this market soon". Anyone else hear this?
