I interviewed Chuy Gomez about his 20 years in Bay Area Radio

106/KMEL - Hip Hop. Gomez did the morning show for a long time - not sure how long though, not being a regular listener of the station. Clear Channel just let him go.

I listened to KMEL a little in the early 1980s when they were rock music format. I think there were 4 decent rock stations back then available in south bay. KOME, KSJO, KSAN and KMEL. If I remember right, Joe Vincent (a name I hear on KGO* now) was on KMEL back then.

*I listen to KGO about 90% less now than I did prior to Dec 2011

Joe is on many stations, so it's possible he did traffic on KMEL back in the day. But he's only Joe Vincent on KGO - on every other station he's Joe McConnell

Joe is on KQED, and a couple of Santa Rosa stations as Joe McConnell, his actual name. He hasn't been on KGO in over a year. He is now head of news for Total Traffic Network's West Coast Bureau...a subsidiary of Clear Channel.

I could be wrong. I'm wrong a lot. But I sure thought that he used or was called the name Joe Vincent on KMEL in the early 1980s. No matter what/who/where he's called or not called now, there was a Joe Vincent on KMEL back in the 80s.

Having worked with and for Joe late 80's on, he never used Joe Vincent anywhere but KGO. There's a reason. At that time, both KCBS and KGO had contracts with Traffic Central (KCBS) and Metro (KGO) where Joe was that forbid a talent from using the same name on their stations as elsewhere. That's why I believe I am correct.
