I know a lot of long time radio people are on here

I know a lot of long time radio people are on here So I need help.I'm going to buy a 1000 watt station first part of 2010. I'm working on getting it up to legal operating condition. When I first started working at the station the transmitter was only puting out 650 watts.I got it up to 1300 watts with a 80 percent efficientcy.Thats about 1040 watts. We have a directional signal. What I need to know is Our license shows +134 and -134 but our reading are +140 and -140 would the +140 and -140 be more directional or less directional.Thank you for any help you can give me

Your parameters are out of tolerance. They should be within 2 degrees of licensed. You need to get an engineer to determine why and possibly get an STA if it can't be resolved quickly. I wouldn't be buying a station that isn't in compliance. As for it's effect on the pattern, I can't tell you. It may be the antenna monitor is out of calibration since both towers are reading high by the same amount.

I'm not sure I would be telling the "public" the that you are not in compliance with the DA. You need a good engineer to get you back to what your license specifies. In the olden days a station with a DA was required to do field measurements to be assured they were in compliance. Don't know if that's still a requirement or not, but it would be wise to do so even if you're not required to do it.

It seems like you are trying to get free advice on this board instead of paying someone to do the job correctly. I appreciate that dollars are tight, but a lot of small operators still are able to do the right thing and pay engineers for their work.

Your money would be put to better use if you stacked the cash in front of an open window and turned an electric fan on it full blast.

You got that right. Do they even put AM on vehicle radios anymore?

How is yourluck now going? Are you about to get a radio statin on air here?

Any news on Curtis starting up that Dark AM station?

Curtis isn't starting up any "Dark AM Stations" Don't you have something to do on Christmas Eve besides stirring the pot?

Big Ape, what are you talking about??? It has been discussed on this board for over a year about a dark Greensboro AM that was going to be fired back up by Curtis (I believe) at some point!

And that was correct. It's WCOG. It was dark for a long time and now has sports talk plus The Bobcats and Appalachian State.

As far as I am concerned, It is still dark!
