I know ALT 103.7 (KVIL) hasn't ever had great ratings, but a 1.1?!?!?

It's quite telling that the last three Audacy Picks have been COIN, Foals, and Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, who all have top 10 hits on Alternative (Foals have even hit #1 once). COIN got 89% approval from the respondents, Foals' results haven't come out yet. I think they've begun to realize that the music they're playing is part of the problem.

I don't think KVIL is going to be flipped yet but this is likely the final attempt to save the station in its current format. I don't think there's anything viable to flip KVIL to so one final attempt to save it is the only thing they can really do at the moment.
From what I can tell, Kevan Kenny and Bryce are no longer on at night and stations program their own music based on the playlists I looked at (unless they're voice tracked still.)

I will listen to Alt 98.7 in Detroit tonight and will let you know, tall_guy, if those folks are on my local station. I'll make a new post. I did hear Kevan several nights ago.

I am both surprised and delighted that Audacy is willing to let KVIL go local in both drive time dayparts.

DFW is the third largest market where Audacy programs the format (only NYC and L.A. are larger), so it is fitting that KVIL be given more autonomy.

I never envision KVIL being anything more than a somewhat distant "also-ran" so long as it remains an Alternative station, but I am optimistic these recent changes will at least infuse some life into the stations' beleaguered ratings.

Looks like Kevan Kenny still voicetracks over certain songs, but the playlists are different every market now.

That sounds right, tall_guy1.

When I listened to WDZH in Detroit last night, he did not appear to be doing a live show. I heard only two breaks over the span of a full hour where he cracked the mic. In one such instance, he was front selling the Audacy "pick of the week" that would play "in less than ten minutes."

I did not hear Bryce at all last night in the roughly 30 to 40 minute span I listened shortly after Midnight ET. That daypart seemed jockless / automated.

I can also confirm the Two Minute Promise is completely gone from 98.7 in Detroit. It is quite possible that gimmick has been tossed aside at most or all of the Audacy-owned alternative stations, as it appears all mentions have also been scrubbed from KROQ's web page and social media.

There clearly is still a significant degree of centralized programming occurring, as multiple stations dropped the two minute promise on what appears to be the exact same day. The pick of the week remains the same across all or nearly all of the Audacy alternative stations, recent music changes in New York, Los Angeles, Detroit and Dallas at minimum are similar, etc.

However, the Dallas station *is* promising more refinements to the music in the weeks ahead, so it'll be interesting to see what those look like. I am optimistic KVIL will have greater localization moving forward.

The Two Minute Promise in & of itself wasn't bad (albeit not great, either), but it was Audacy's manner of implementation of it that bothered me a lot. I didn't want to hear eight or ten mentions of it every...single...hour for months on end. Those self-aggrandizing promos alone added about three or four minutes of redundant clutter to the station's hourly programming!

Oh, when 98.7 in Detroit was cutting to the low rated NYC morning show this morning, I heard the WNYL legal ID play at the top of the 6AM ET hour as opposed to the WDZH legal ID. Nice. Looks like they joined the WNYL feed a little too early. The folks at that company really have no idea how to use their automation system properly, do they?

And the RDS for 98.7 for Detroit last weekend was still displaying "98.7 Amp Radio" on the static text line intended for song title & artist. That station died almost exactly three years ago. Such errors are commonplace. I've been seeing "98.7 Amp Radio" display on the RDS at intermittent times for at least 3 or 4 months now when I've tuned to WDZH.

So are there signs that Audacy is about to flip KVIL. Maybe they will wait until after the holidays to do such.

I wouldn’t read too far into that. This is just the work of the new programmer (who has decades in alt experience). I’ve yet to see Lance report on any potential web domains hinting at a change.

Considering Audacy just brought in John Allers (formerly of WRFF Philly) to oversee that station and a couple of others, I don't expect a wholesale flip anytime soon. It more seems like the changes currently taking place are the first steps he is taking to right the ship now that he's in charge.

I wonder if you might hear John in morning drive at some point. He had that role at WRFF before iHeart replaced him with The Woody Show.

I could see him handling morning drive at KVIL personally especially since it’s such a big market.

is there any iHeart owned radio shows airing on Audacy stations outside of the newstalk/sports talk stations

plus Woody if he was syndicated here in Dallas would be on KEGL 97.1 The Eagle anyway.

Off hand, WRVQ and WRXL both have syndicated morning shows (Elvis Duran and Elliot Segal, respectively) as a holdover from iHeart's ownership of both, and it doesn't seem like either show will be replaced any time soon.

How come? Just because iHeart has stations in a market doesn't mean they won't let a competitor carry a Premiere Networks program.

And now...it looks like ALT is now back at 1.1! Barely beating KLIF (no, no that one), and lagging behind almost out-of-market signals like KBOC and KNOR.

Amazing work done by Audacy, the undisputed champions of American broadcast radio! ;)

I love it. They’re behind KXT. Actually, 1.6 is pretty high by KXT standards, they usually hover around 1.0. It’s probably just the usual statistical wobble, and I know the 6+ numbers don’t mean much, but I always like it when KXT beats anybody in the ratings.

I've been actually looking at the cumes of all the stations, and I believe that is the reason for the longevity of the low rated stations. KVIL included...

21st in cume isn't something to be proud of.
Right, and if they just want to go for cume, going back to CHR would certainly increase the number substantially higher than it is now. 93.3 with its deficient signal, stale branding, and unfocused music mix outcumes 103.7 every month, usually by huge margins.
