I really want to hear WNSL SL 100 in Hattiesburg

I want to hear SL 100. What does this sound like? One of the employees at the station told me they could not afford to stream which is a bummer. Does anyone have a sample of this?

Sounds about like every other crappy Clear Channel CHR small market station.
Lot's of positioners to make up for -- apparently -- the inabilitity of any on air "talent"
to tell its listeners what the station is or does. Endless "lets be an iPod" music sweeps
followed by long (10 to 12 unit) spot blocks that render an advertiser's message virtually
ineffective, voice tracked to eliminate all possibility of current weather or other info.
Other than that it is a fine radio station.
NSL was a good small town station for many years until CC got hold of it. You aren't
missing anything.

You also didn't mention that the audio from SL 100 is bad. Waaay too loud, distorted. Not quite as bad as Y 101 (which has that "busted speaker" sound). If they tried to turn it up as loud as Y 101 they would fry the antenna.

Bad audio on perfectly good radio stations is a pet peeve of mine. I've heard AM stations that sound better than many of the FM stations these days.

The best audio processing I have heard in recent years is on "Prarie Home Companion"...and it's a live broadcast.
The old AM 120% positive peaks and all of that might have helped those AM stations stand out on the old radio dials and maybe even
made them listenable for an extra few miles. But, it makes no sense with FM or today's radios. The scan is going to pick up your
carrier regardless of the modulation...or lack thereof. It's not like we're manually listening for a signal.
I wonder if the 12-34 year olds care about the quality? They seem happy with MP3s and ear buds.

Yes. It sounds good to me, regardless of how much. Keep in mind my ears are also old.

I totally agree! SL 100 was a local radio station in the 90's and had the best AC Sound in all of South Mississippi during that decade. We used to always try to pick it up on the coast and in Jackson. Not anymore after CC!

Indeed, SL-100 was THE station in the 90's.. then Cumulus got in and screwed around for a while finally selling out to CC. In the past few years sounds like someone is playing with the processing and all the CC stations here are in a race to see who can have the least highs with the most phase rotation. The other broadcasters are following their lead too. :-( EMF, however, has their own standards and sounds wonderful with a full balanced spectrum. Great Job Phil O'Bryan!!!
