I Swear As GOD As My Witness , I Thought Turkeys Could Fly "

Happy Holidays from Les Nesman at W.K.R.P. !!!!!!

The actual quote came from Arthur Carlson, general manager of WKRP. Poor 'ol Les just reported it.

I was in Cincinnati earlier this week. As hard as I tried...rigged up antennas, twisted the radio in all kinds of directions...and could not get a signal from WKRP, at all! Bummer!

WKRC was purchased by some faceless conglomerate and became 550 WKRC. Johnny Fever went on to do an oldies show on Radio Luxembourg and Venus Flytrap went to Chicago and was the first program director of WNEU. Mr. Carlson became a producer for Jerry Springer and died a few years ago. Herb Tarlek is currently Vice-President for sales for Cox Broadcasting and invented John Boy and Billy. THe old WKRP tower site is now a Wal-Mart. Bailey Quarters changed her name to Delilah and the rest is herstory. CAn anybody tell us where Ted Baxter went?

He went to the big radio station in the sky.....

HA! Great plot! Seriously...the tower on the opener of the WKRP shows...isn't it the 1360 tower (or an old 1360 tower)? I've heard that before.

Actually, I made a mistake. WKRP bought an FM frequency and became WKRQ. All the staff stayed and became really successful on FM. Barney Miller had a sex change and became Murphy Brown.

Fybush.com mentioned the "WKRP Tower" a while back. The tower seen in the show's open isn't actually an AM tower at all, but a TV antenna. It was once the main tower for WLWT-TV 5. It's now the NBC affiliate's auxiliary tower.

I have a picture of me and "The Big Guy" at a broadcast convention in Kansas. He got his start in Topeka. This was just two years before he died.
