I think Energy 98 should have leased WNYZ, Party is just a souped up KTU

Party has had a few months now and there's still too much damn hip hop on there, why would anyone choose to listen to a weak signal on 87.7 when there are at least 4 other stations playing songs like "New York" and "Live Your Life"?
I could deal with it, but they seem to be missing hot new dance tracks like Chicane's "Hiding All the Stars" and Edward Maya & Vika Jigulina "Stereo Love". They just started playing Inna's "Hot", cmmon guys, Energy 98 has been playing it for months already.
In the beginning I was like "give them a chance", but it doesn't seem like Party is adding enough new dance product. I really think most of the Pulse listeners got disgusted and left.
The Party format will work on Long Island, but in NYC they will need to stand out. At this point I'd rather see Energy 98 leasing WNYZ. I will stand by the fact that when Andre left Party the station went downhill. A station that plays dance while missing out on the biggest trance style tracks has something missing IMO.
I guess Vic Latino must be spooked out by it or something. Party plays the most dance at night, but daytimes are just brutal. I got a bridge to sell if Party thinks they'll be able to get as many listeners as Pulse had. here comes some more Sean Paul...this is getting tired already...

It all comes down to money. There was another Internet dance station interested in leasing WNYZ, but Party must have had the highest bid.

I don't listen to them for extended periods of time anymore, except during mixshows.

I was one of those who thought "let's give them a chance". And the jury is out and........I think they need to act quick because this mashed up format is not working. They don't have be another Pulse but they should remove all the hip hop (only playing the uptempo stuff like flo-rida etc). It's been repeated time and it merits repeating, no one is going to tune in to 87.7 to listen to a song they can already hear on any other NY station.

...and the ratings show that. They have their work cut out and the clock is running.

Actually, they didn't encode for PPM until the first week of December. So it's 3 weeks of 0 ratings and 1 week of whatever it was the first week of December.

Believe me....they are definitely aware of the criticisms going on over there.

I'll be fair. If this was a basis of only 7 days on the PPM for this book, so be it. However, if the ratings/cumes remain near the same for the January 2010 PPM's then YES, something has to be done.

after the demize of Pulse I really stuck around 87.7 because I wanted to like Party but I gave up. The sound is to quirky and badly executed. It's small market delivery doesn't work for me nor does the constant hip, hop.

I removed 87.7 from my pre-sets all together... I think KTU is better than Party anyway... first the delivery and sound quality is far better, plus 103.5 plays all the current rhythmic leaning pop and mainstream hip hop and throws in dance remixes and has mix shows at various points throughout the day... plus it just feels like NY, where Party feels like it could be anywhere...

This unofficial promo surely leads the Pulse fans in which particular direction Party 87 should go. As I said eariler, if the numbers are the same or lower on the next book, which gives them a full 30 day encoder, then Tony's "Big Picture" has to happen right then and there.

And that's where I feel opposite (in terms of the 'KTU feeling like NY. Example?.....go listen to My106.1 out of Philly and you'll see what I mean), but hey, some say TO-MAY-TO, some say TO-MAH-TO. Matter of preference and no crime in it :)

Cool find D21! :)

I was just in NYC this past week and this weekend, and I thought KTU was sounding better than they had in ages. While I was in the city, I stopped almost everyday in different Dunkin Donuts and noticed almost everyone of them had 'KTU blaring. I was surprised, because it seems like I usually hear Lite or PLJ in businesses more often than KTU. But this time it seemed like KTU was everywhere.

Also, not sure if they were doing a specialty weekend with it being New Years, but they were definitely playing more freestyle in the mix once again. (I heard Cynthia/Johnny O.'s "Dream Boy/Girl" twice within 24 hours. I also heard Rockell, Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, TKA, and The Cover Girls played as well). It also, seemed like there was less of the slower R&B type rhythmic AC cuts, and more uptempo dance remixes of pop songs (like Taylor Swift, Kelly Clarkson, etc.). They certainly are still rhythmic AC, but I think they've definitely tweaked a bit in the past few months since Pulse died, and are sounding more like they used to. (Thank goodness they got rid of most of that reggaeton crap they played so much a few years back).

Anyway, I also listened to Party a bit, but I'm still not impressed. Of course I've streamed them quite often as well, but I just don't care for them. They are a poor substitution for Pulse, and I also agree, that KTU sounds and feels much more like NYC than Party does. I wish someone else would hire J. Salkowitz (or Emmis would hire him to put Original Hot 97 on WQHT HD). But as it stands, I just don't see Party making it. They would be better off to just split the Long Island and NYC signals and run a jockless dance jukebox on 87.7. It wouldn't have personality, but it would still do better than what they are doing now. As everyone else has said, who wants to listen to the same pop/hip hop tracks on a crappy signal when you can hear them on 3 or 4 much more powerful signals? Their strategy makes no sense for 87.7. For it to survive, it has to target an unserved niche. Just my opinion.

when I zip around the tri-state in my car, I listen to philly's my106.1 (a slower version of ktu), the bay area's wild94.9 (a younger hip hop leaning station), toronto's kiss 92.5 (rhythmic chr mostly), charlotte's 96.1 The Beat (CHR), then obviously Q102, Z100 and KTU and once and awhile NOW-FM too... I just plug my iphone into the AUX jack in my car and any station that streams is basically at my fingertips in HD sound no matter my whereabouts...

my iphone is how I listened to Pulse, cause I couldn't get it in my office or apt, but their iphone app worked alright most of the time...

That it is. I'm just thinking with 6G (and this would be 10 years from now), that the technology would cover the more rural of areas. Without a doubt, you can tune in to any of these and other stations via the smartphones in any city in the same way JustinCase explained (I do it too; heck I was hearing a station from Newfoundland and NO it wasn't dance! lol). But venture out to the "sticks" and at times you would lose the stream because you may be in an area that your phone provider doesn't cover.

Though with streaming car stereos, the process would be a lot easier for those that don't want to go through the "trouble" of plugging the phone into the AUX jack. But hey, the "apps" are out there for tons of stations (terrestrial AND Internet) along with one website I use (I don't have an iPhone...I have an AT&T Tilt) to catch the streaming terrestrial stations.

I'll share.

Another reason PartyFM really needs to step up to being a leader, they call themselves a Party Music leader and then play a bunch of hip hop songs over and over again, while stations like Energy 98 break new songs months before them. The Money to Blow and Baby By Me remixes are good, but they dont need to be played 20 times a day. What ever happened to Annagrace and Kim Sozzi reccurants?

Both 87 and 105 are gone from presets. I just cant bear listening anymore. The high repitition of certain hip hop songs is getting on my nerves. The repitition is really bad, and they arent adding much new dance product. Even dance recurrents, songs like Annagrace "You Make Me Feel" seem to be missing in favor of hip hop and hip hop remixes. I know hip hop has been part of Party's format since it's inception, but between the heavy airplay of stuff like Pit Bull and TI, and the complete lack of much dance product (I mean actual dance artists like Kim Sozzi) I can no longer bear to listen. I've been a steady listener of Party 105 since the 90s, except during the channelcasting stint. Party used to be about breaking NEW dance and hip hop, but now it seems they want to sound like a mix of X96.3, Hot 97, and KTU.

Why should they change their name? People that listen to hip-hop like to party too.

One plays to an audience that is world wide and one plays to an audience in a specific locale. You can compare the two if you'd like but they are quite different in both their needs and stategies. Party has also broken a lot of new music for the record as well. ;)

for the record(if you'll pardon the pun),.there's a big difference between introducing a record and 'breaking' a record, which results in crossover to bigger and better things..
just playing a song that you think is hot isn't 'breaking' a record..
that depends on the results that follow
