Idaho & Montana heard in Michigan this morning!

I had great conditions this morning to the west and finally knocked two difficult states off my list: Montana and Idaho!

560 KMON Great Falls, MT. with some local ads for Great Falls
businesses, mentions of Montana and into c/w music at 1052 UTC and a
faint call letter ID just before TOH.

730 KINF Boise, ID. with several IDs at 1104 UTC with "Newsradio 7-30" and call letter
IDs and spots for the Laura Ingraham show and Jerry Doyle show, mentions
of FM 99.1, etc. Heard just under KKDA's dominant 500w signal.

Other new ones heard this morning include 600 KSJB Jamestown, ND & 600 KCOL Wellington, CO.

Relogs heard were 550 KRAI Craig, CO. & 750 KHWG Fallon, NV.

These were all heard around 1100 UTC this morning. I'm excited to finally nail these two states - it's been a struggle for a long time!

Wowwwwww.....my hat would be off to you, if I were wearing one.

Those are some really impressive catches there! Nice to see the band opening up to the west like that. I'll have to try early morning and see what all I can catch.

Out of those new logs, I've logged KMON, KINF, KCOL and KHWG. Have been trying for KRAI and KSJB for a long time now!

Great job Kilokat. Sure wish I had the room to install a long wire antenna. Judging by your experience it makes Dxing so much better.

I checked for these the last couple of mornings at my location in SW Michigan and didn't hear these stations. KMON would have to be strong enough to override WIND. On 730, I have been hearing CKDM, Dauphin, MD quite consistently (also have heard them in the Chicago area).

I have also been hearing CFAM, AM 950 from Altona, MB the past few days fairly consistently here in Michigan. The classical music program makes it easy to pick them out of the pile. Sometimes they are pretty well above the rest of the jumble.

I almost dismissed the KMON reception since WIND was dominating the channel as usual but I heard a female announcer under WIND reading a local ad and heard her mention Montana, and a few minutes later a call letter ID during a weather forecast. All of this was heard under WIND.

I had no sign of CKDM that morning, and honestly they aren't heard here often. Strangely, my 730 pest station is always KKDA.

As for 950, also try for Denver's KRWZ during the night or early morning - they have been reaching this area with a decent signal and use the slogan "Cruisin Oldies 950". I hear them often mixing with (and sometimes over) WNTD.

I've been trying to repeat the Idaho/Montana morning, but conditions must have been favoring the northwest that morning. Yesterday morning (7am Eastern) I did have a clear copy of KNBR and a little KFI - not new but always fun to hear! KCOL on 600 was heard again, I suspect they are stuck on 5kw day power, and ditto for KKZN on 760 with a huge signal. Now would be the time to log these two stations.
