Ideally, who/what would you like to hear replacing Steve LeVeille's broadcasts?

One other reason for having a local host on WBZ-1030 in the overnight hours:

It should also be noted that in August, 2009, news of the death of Senator Ted Kennedy broke a bit after 1 A.M. EDT.

Had WBZ been running a syndicated show, they might have gotten a network bulletin, but that likely might have been that.

But since Steve LeVeille was doing a local show, the first bulletin (ironically, it was from ABC; I was actually listening to the show that night in bed before falling asleep) was followed by a look back at Kennedy's life (which was pre-taped, but locally produced by 'BZ). When that taped segment ended, LeVeille had Dan Rea on (Rea was in-studio; he had made it back to the 'BZ studios once news of Kennedy's death broke).

I suspect (I turned off my radio shortly after 2 A.M. EDT) that the rest of the night consisted of more discussion about Kennedy's life and times.

Had WBZ been running a syndicated show, they would have gotten a network bulletin (thanks to tripping an automation system), but might not have had much further coverage beyond hourly network newscasts until 5 A.M. EDT.

Jordan Rich and Morgan White Jr. could form an excellent 'tag team', with one on Mondays through Thursdays at midnight and the other taking Fridays through Sundays. Rich has weekday commitments and the current syndication with WCCO in Minneapolis while White has some regular club trivia gigs. White could have some trivia, but would best move toward more of a general interest show like Rich's. White is fine when discussing issues. I heard him filling in during the October snowstorm, and he presented a sane and intelligent approach. Bradley Jay can best serve as Dan Rea's backup, being Republican is his views and better suited to prime time.

May we please be spared from any more Jordan Rich than we already get! Great pipes alone do not make a good talk-show host. IMO, although Jordan has the pipes, he is one of the worst. A good talk host should come across as genuine. To me, Jordan completely fails on that score.

How 'bout a vote for "Glenn in Brighton"? He's always wanted to be a radio host, this would be a great opportunity for him! C'mon Jordie, pull some strings & get him in the chair! ;D

Not these empty headed flacks, media relations representatives, publicity agents reading from press releases but little original thought. There are original thinkers out there with the best skill, talented in the art of great conversation

No longer settle for the usual standbys. Look for someone with something new and add to public discourse!

Isn't Chris Lydon older than Steve? I like Chris a lot but I don't think he'd want to put himself through that kind of work schedule at his point in his career. Plus public radio is a pretty different beast from overnight commercial talk, too. I can think of several NPR hosts that could probably do it but I can't think of any that would WANT to.

I know - let's put Coast to Coast on WBZ and then it won't need to be on a zillion crappy little graveyard-channel stations! ::)

About a +10y diff.
Remember the rumor that Mary (Chris's producer) was being paid more than David Brodnoy? The two --C&D-- were old acquaintences but that didn't go over well. And it set WBZ v. Public Radio pay scale questions in motion.

The hours are a problem. For Chris (at Brown?) or lots of people.

original thought
Like Jake Hartford maybe? He'd probably have to leave Ms.Dill Pickle behind (in Il) though.

Ha, don't think that would happen what with the move to FM for many people. Some 50,000
watt (or even 100kW) stations are showing up on FM now, to the desired band. They'd be satisfied with FM talkers in many markets to run C2C etc

(2009):"Starting Jan. 1, Clear Channel-owned WGBT 94.5 FM, currently a Hispanic format, will be the area's newest talk radio station -- going head-to-head against Burlington-based 100,000 watt FM talk station WZTK FM."

anything is better than morgan white jr :(

In the past he has always denied interest in a full time gig, but last night he "hinted" at filling the spot "IF" he were selected. I like Morgan as a fill-in, but I could never stomach him as a full time replacement.

Also, the way he plays up to his "favorite" callers is glaringly obvious, and that is a complete turn-off for me right from the start.

For all of LeVeille's faults, I must say he was fair to all the callers, giving them equal time, unless they were completely off the wall or downright rude.

In other words, no favorites, MORGAN... just in case he is reading this.

Oh yeah, I forgot, Morgan doesn't do "ticky, ticky" ::)

Dave the paper/post guy who calls every talk program east of Chicago checked in to tell Morgan he thinks 12-6 am will go syndi'. He has a steak in this as he prob av 80 calls a year to 'BZ. He wished MWJr. luck. Mightly nice of him.

He also mentioned he didn't care for the syndi show which had replaced LeVeille, which would prob be a shock to Grayson (as I'm sure he's a regular there).

He's too smart to angle for it. But he knew what was going on. Anybody who paid attention could tell SL wasn't going to finish out this contract.

Morgan was off to a roaring start at Midnight Sunday by interviewing John Astin on the release of "I'm Dickens, He's Fenster" on DVD. [record scratches]

Ok, John Astin is well known as an actor and a director on TV, most famously for being Gomez Addams on "The Addams Family." [snap snap] But "I'm Dickens He's Fenster was cancelled after 1 season, only 23 or so episodes.

I really hope that he doesn't get this slot. As much as I like trivia and pop culture, this is the wrong way to go. It's like having Cracker Jack for dinner 5 nights a week. It does nothing but rot your teeth and give you an upset stomach. The same goes for his topics and your brain.

Please, WBZ management, bring in someone who can talk about anything, the light and hard topics. Morgan and Bradley Jay are not what you need to keep your Loyal LeVeille Listeners.

LOL - Dave the paper/post guy; Yep, he's a regular on every show from here to there...Hope Grayson didn't hear his "dissing" of his show, 'cause he (Dave) makes a regular appearance on his show at least 2-3 times a week. ::)

Nothing like being able to break the once a week rule x3/week or more. Hope BZ management is watching this, as the favorite pet caller thing grows mighty old after awhile.

Since Morgan White has done some substituting for Steve LeVeille (and was the fill-in on the nights of June 10th-11th and 11th-12th), I would think he is the front-runner fort the slot, assuming it slot stays local. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he's soon named the permanent successor.

I like Dean Johnson a lot but think it's going to be someone from outside if they stay local. It won't be Morgan.
